Could you please ask him if he knows of a surgeon doing this in Dallas (or Houston, I guess)?

Got it, and replied.

I'm hoping that this is just a preliminary diagnosis based on insufficient testing, but her urologist sounded pretty convinced.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Mike, I'm sorry to hear the news. My mom had her thyroid (not parathyroid?) removed 30 years ago. It was a quick surgery, no complications. I hope it doesn't come to surgery, and perhaps the parathyroid is more complicated than the thyroid, but should it come to that, I hope everything goes well.

Many vibes headed Dottie's way!

to you both.

Laurie

Dottie had another set of blood tests, and her doctor says her calcium is actually within the normal range. They are doing more tests, and she'll see an endocrinologist, but it looks like the situation is not as clear as the first doctor thought.

I didn't think it would be. Whenever a mineral is high or low it usually warrants more diagnostics to figure out what the source problem is. ...and typically nothing is ever easy.

I only wish I could convince doctors to take my chronic hypokalemia seriously!

Good luck to her, I hope she finds a doctor that will try to figure it out. Of course there is also the off possibility that the lab goofed last time - it's not impossible.

Mike, I just caught up on this, and I surely hope it turns out that she's just fine. Many good vibes coming to you both...

Lots of vibes that it turns out to be something that's more easily treatable

I don't know anything about hyperparathyroidism, but hyperthyroidism is definitely not treated with surgery but with medication and may be getting confused with by some people...
