I feel like such a bad meowmy!

So yesterday I noticed Luke being a little funny about his back right leg. When I was petting him he cried out a little bit and it felt like his leg muscle was twitching a little bit. I looked all over to see if there were any bite marks. He and Danny still aren't getting along very well, so I thought maybe he had a bite. Well I couldn't find anything and then I checked him several times, and it didn't seem to be hurting him anymore. He doesn't really like his back/butt touched, so I just figured he was being grumpy.

Well, I just looked at him and it definitely hurts. You can't even touch him there (it's right where his back goes into his leg) without him whining and shying away. And he's not putting his full weight on it now. I know I should have taken him into work with me today! I feel so bad! But, I work tomorrow morning, so I'll get doc to look at him.

But, it's so strange. His muscle is twitching very rapidly in a very small area when you put even the slightest pressure on it. I've been a tech for almost two years now and I've never seen anything like that. I can extend his leg and it doesn't cause any pain, press along his bones and nothing. It's definitely in the muscle. It could be a bite that I just can't see because of his fur...but it doesn't feel like that to me. Anybody have any clues?

I'd appreciate any suggestions and lots of vibes!!! I'll let ya'll know what's going on when I get back from work tomorrow. Great birthday present Luke (tomorrow is my bday)

Okay, just got back from work.

After a physical exam and some x-rays, it looks like Luke pulled/irritated a muscle along the end of his spine. There was some swelling visible in the x-ray. So, for now we're just going to treat symptomatically and it will hopefully clear up. So he's on some very happy drugs right now, lol.

We gave an 8-hour dose of buprenex (0.38ml) for the pain and 1ml of dexamethasone for the swelling. I was afraid he might react badly to the bup (some cat's get very very jumpy), but he seems to be enjoying it immensely, lol. I've also got some metacam for later if needed. (NOTE: I am fully aware of the risks and hype associated with metacam. We administer it in very very small doses and I'm comfortable giving it to my cat. No lectures.)

Right now he's resting happily in my closet, rolling over and rubbing all over anybody or any cat that walks by,
. Hopefully he'll feel back to normal in a few days!
