In an earlier thread today I stated how excited and happy I was to welcome my new Grand-niece, Brooklyn into the world early this morning.

Isn't it the way however that with any Happy news often something equally
as Sad surfaces quickly and that is what my day has been like.

About 3 hours after speaking with my brother (whom I might add is over the moon at the thought of his first grand-baby.)I had a call from a lady I worked for during summer vacations when I was in high-school.
During those year I worked as a mother's-helper/ babysitter for a family who lived in New Mexico. Every summer the mom who was Canadian would pack up the four kids and come north to spend 8 weeks at her families cottage. These kids were great, I spent lots of time taking them swimming, hiking, we would go on overnight camping trips, canoeing, sailing, we had tons of fun together and I was really treated like part of the family. We've always kept in touch exchanging Holiday and Birthday Greetings every year.

The reason this lady contacted me was to let me know John the oldest boy, he would have turned 37 this year was killed in a car accident last Saturday.
It was such sad news, I think more because I remember this person not as an adult but as a 12 year old boy who was such a little joker he always had everyone laughing.

Very sad end to a way to short life.

I'm so sorry to hear that! What sad news to get on an otherwise happy occasion. I bet he will remain forever a child in your mind...

On a happier note, congratulations about the baby!
