My 16 year old cat recently came to live with me from my parents house where she has been for 13 years. Prior to that she had moved around the country several times. She has always had cats around her, but she is the only at my house. Her buddy died a few years ago but there was still one other cat in my parents house, although they tolerated each other they weren't pals. Immediately once she moved in she began this deep meowing at night, and it hasn't stop. Very rarely does she meow like that during the day. I thought it might easy up once she got use to the new house but it hasn't. I don't think she is unhappy because she is constantly purring and gets tons of attention. Could she be looking for another cat? PLEASE help, anything would be appreciated.

bama, my first concern would be the advancing age of this cat. If she were mine, i would take her to the vet and ask them to run a blood panel on her to see if she is okay healthwise.

Changes can stress out a cat, and they can become ill because of it. That would be the first thing I would rule out- if it were me.

From what I have read, nightime yowling in elderly cats is most often due to illness or disorientation.

Please do what Hissy suggested and ask your vet to run a blood panel. The yowling could be due to pain resulting from liver or kidney failure or some other illness.

If the vet finds nothing physically wrong, try leaving on a few lights at night. The eyesight of elderly cats often becomes poor and they become confused or disoriented in the dark. Leaving the lights on can be a simple solution....but have the vet check her our first!
