yes i have now giving the farm cats in the strawmow...a litter box. i've just been using the sand/dirt that is in a pile behind the barn and they are using it just fine. the litterbox doesn't smell at all - does sand actually absorb smell? also is using sand okay? i have to replace the litter every day, they all use it so they go through it very fast.

No problem at all - actually much healthier for the kitties than clay. Sand doesn't absorb urine at all, that's why it is not smelling - the urine goes through the sand, and into the ground, or whatever the subtract beneath the sand is. You don't need to replace the sand every day either - clean up the poop, and you are fine for a while. You can also wash the sand with a garden hose; that will wash the urine off.

its actually easiest just to dump it all out, and i am not going to run out anytime soon
thanks for replying, i don't want to use sand if it was bad for them.
