Around 8:30 am, DH started to go out to take a bag of trash out, and called to me, "There's a dog on our doorstep!" This dear little Jack Russell Terrier was just sitting there, looking at the door. When I approached the door, it stood up on its hind legs to greet me! I saw that it had no collar, so I let it in, thinking that we could check her out to make sure she was ok, and also to keep her safe until we could ask around, and find her owner. (Oh, ok--you know me well enough to know what I really was wishing--that we couldn't find her owner, and would be "forced" to keep her!
)

She came in, and proceeded to chase 3 cats up the stairs. Serves Smudge rght. He's such a bully to the other cats, so now HE knows what it feels like to be the hunted, instead of the hunter!
I don't think she wanted to hurt them--just chase them as "prey". Anyway, she started to make herself at home--sat on 2 sofas, followed me around, tried to sit on my lap, checked out the upstairs, etc. I sent DH to the store for dog food, thinking she may be a hungry stray, though I did wonder why someone would drop off a popular breed like that. I started calling her "Tippy-Toes", which she learned as her "name" literally in 10 minutes. I wish you could have seen her--gosh, she was a cutie, and so nice. Oh, how I wanted to keep her! DH, who is a cat person, even loved her (and she him).

Well, the fun soon ended. I was at the pc, with Tippy-Toes by my side, and I thought I heard someone calling for a dog. I was right--it was the house behind us. I went out, and asked her if she had lost a dog, etc. The reason she had no collar was that her owner removes it at night; Tippy escaped through a hole in their fence. The lady was so happy to find Tippy, and thanked us profusely--she even came over later with a nice plant, and a nice thank-you card! She apologized for putting us to trouble; I told her it really was a pleasure.

Aw, a plant and card instead of a Jack Russel! J/K That was really nice of your neighbor to do that! Those dogs are sooo cute!
I don't understand why your neighbor would take the dog's collar off at night?

We take our dog's collar off at night. He used to sleep in his crate at night and we didn't want anything on him, just in case. We still take it off because he likes to scratch around his neck area to the point where it will bleed, and the collar makes it worse.

Such a sweet story
Shame you couldn't keep little 'Tippy', she would have been good company (not forgetting the cats of course
)
