3. Why did you decide to get a cat? Companionship I suppose. I wanted a pet ever since my fiance and I have been together. He finally fell in love with Cammy.

6. How much do you spend monthly on cat necessities? A normal month with no vet visits, about $150 maybe.

7. Do you dress your cat in clothes or adorn it with pretty collars? I bought Cammy a pretty dress just for fun and to take pictures in. She was not happy.

8. What makes you choose the cat food you buy? Ingredients, price is a factor, willingness to eat it is also a factor. Wellness is not going over well with Cammy.


9. How many times a year do you take your cat to the vet? I haven't had Cammy for a year yet, just three months and she's gone twice. Most of the outside kitties have gone once to get spayed or neutered, a few have gone again because they got URI.

10. How much do you spend yearly on vet visits? This year...about $700, that's for all of them.


11. Do you believe in spaying/neutering your cat? Absolutely, everyone should (except legitimate breeders)


12. Do you have your cat groomed? I'd like to get Cammy groomed, but so far, no.

3. Why did you decide to get a cat? (example: companionship) I've always wanted a cat for no reason other than I love them. It was just a matter of convincing my husband that he wanted one. He decided to get one so I would stop bugging him about getting one all the time

4. Do you consider your cat a family member? Yes, she's my fat and fuzzy furbaby.

16. If you were to adopt/rescue a cat, what would be your reasoning behind doing so? I did adopt my Squeaky. While I'm not against owning a purebred, I couldn't rationalize spending hundreds of dollars on a cat I wouldn't show. Thus, off the animal shelter to find a kitty who needed my love.

17. Do you let your cat sleep in bed with you? Nope, I have asthma. Cat in the bed would be just asking for an asthma attack.


18. Do you let your cat roam wherever they want in your home? She's allowed everywhere but the bedroom (keep it cat hair free for my asthma) and the bathroom (because we keep her food in there, and if she were allowed in, she'd chew through the bag and eat it all).

3.\tWhy did you decide to get a cat? (example: companionship) Two years ago I finally got a kitten to fulfill a lifelong dream. I just love cats. Of course, it was supposed to be only one cat. The others just kind of happened.

5.\tWhere do you shop for your cat necessities (food, toys, and treats)? Walmart, Petsmart, Petco, local feed store, online pet supply


6.\tHow much do you spend monthly on cat necessities? About $90 for food and litter

7.\tDo you dress your cat in clothes or adorn it with pretty collars? No. I actually have a hard time finding plain collars for my girls.

8.\tWhat makes you choose the cat food you buy? I did a fair amount of research on what kind of food is best for cats. Then I chose the best food I could get on my budget. In the end, I feed them what they will eat. That means a high quality dry food and so-so wet food.


9.\tHow many times a year do you take your cat to the vet? Once, assuming there are no problems in between.

10.\tHow much do you spend yearly on vet visits? The first year is $125-150 for each cat. That includes two or three visits for the initial vaccination series, plus spay or neuter. After that it's about $40 each for routine exams and booster shots. I know that's really low compared to some. My vet only charges one exam fee if I take all the cats in at the same time, so mostly I'm paying for the shots.

12.\tDo you have your cat groomed? No. They're all short haired and easy for me to take care of the grooming myself.

17.\tDo you let your cat sleep in bed with you? Let them? How do you stop them? Of course, I love having them sleep with me. I haven't had to use my electric blanket at all the last two winters.


18.\tDo you let your cat roam wherever they want in your home? Again: Let them?!? They pretty much do whatever they want. I keep the office door closed so that can't go in when I'm not with them, and I shut them out of the studio while I'm working. Otherwise, they have free run of the house.

Glad to be part of your class. I'm going to try my best to keep the survey to my personal cats, but I do have 35 cats I'm fostering right now. (5 mothers and their kittens) not sure if that tidbit is important to the research or not.

2. How many people are in your household? Me and my Boyfriend in the basement apartment with his father in the spare bedroom. His mother has the upstairs apartment to "her self" and my boyfriend's uncle rents the garage which has been converted to a studio.

3. Why did you decide to get a cat? They needed a home, and I had both room in my house and in my heart.

4. Do you consider your cat a family member? Very much so, my cats are like my best friends. They sleep on my bed too.

5. Where do you shop for your cat necessities (food, toys, and treats)? We buy a brand of food that is made by a woman in our cat rescue group, both our forevers and our fosters eat this. I also buy some cans from the local grocery sometimes. Toys are usually donated to the rescue, sometimes we pick up a few at petsmart, or make our own. I use pounce treats to train my Milo.

16. If you were to adopt/rescue a cat, what would be your reasoning behind doing so? Well since I do rescue I'll answer as to why I do that:

There are far to many homeless, abandoned and unwanted cats-- If we alter one pair, that is one male and one female cat a year, that's 2 litters of kittens a year that are prevented from living feral, two litters a year that won't be thrown out of a house, two litters a year that can make room for the already born and here cats who need homes. We (my boyfriend's mother mostly) schedules say on average 10 females and 5 males a week for altering, that is a lot of unwanted kittens prevented. I choose to foster expecting cats and queens with kittens because I can alter both mom and babies and prevent a new generation of unwanted cats from being brought into the world.

3. Why did you decide to get a cat? (example: companionship) Well... My in laws cat was already here when I came, and my mother in law likes cats and they like her. (She could tame any stray I've heard- and did.) Bastet wandered in one day, and well... We didn't decide. She did.

5. Where do you shop for your cat necessities (food, toys, and treats)? The local supermarket. Food, litter, all in one place. Toys... not so much buy. More make. A cardboard box tube and a ball of tinfoil. Wool with a knot in the end. She seems to get bored less quickly with home made toys.

7. Do you dress your cat in clothes or adorn it with pretty collars? If I ever did that, I'd get my face scratched off. She didn't mind the light Christmas cloak though. And surprisingly her first collar.

8. What makes you choose the cat food you buy? What's in it. We don't buy just one brand. The Homebrand tuna and whole fish actually are what they say they are, and the rest is whatever's on special that she likes. Generally fishy for some reason.


9. How many times a year do you take your cat to the vet? In all honesty... Bastet has never been to the vet. The other cat goes for vaccinations and the like, but Bastet hasn't gone as yet. We kept her quarantined when we found her, syringe (no needle!) fed her milk until we realised she was on solids at 4 weeks, and as she displayed no signs of sickness.... She's going in a few weeks for her first trip though. Vaccinations, desexing and microchipping. Indoor cat. Won't even leave the porch with you.

11. Do you believe in spaying/neutering your cat? Yes. If you do not plan to breed your cat, and therefore take the necessary precautions, get them desexed. We got given a cat once, who was supposed to be desexed, and we realised in the last few weeks of pregnancy she wasn't. She went insane and two of her kittens died because she didn't look after them and we didn't realise in time. We nearly lost a third. It's much kinder to prevent it.
