Scientists have a fun & easy program that anyone can participate in, even kids. Both are to help learn about ladybugs and fireflies in our area.

Observe, photograph, and submit photos of ladybugs in your area. This will help scientists find out how our native species are holding up against invasive ladybug species. http://treadwell.cce.cornell.edu/ladybeetles/

Observe fireflies in your area, this will help scientists see if they are being affected by pesticides and man-made lights in your area. https://www.mos.org/fireflywatch/

Have Fun and thanks for helping!

Here are the 3 steps on how to help the ladybugs.

Step 1- What you can do is go to this Field Guide on identifying different ladybug species, it will help you know what species are by you. http://treadwell.cce.cornell.edu/lad...bugguide11.pdf

(scientists are looking to hopefully find the nine-spotted ladybug living in some states!)

Step 2-Take a photo of the ladybug- tips on how to here- http://treadwell.cce.cornell.edu/lad...es/?page_id=25

Step 3-After you photograph the ladybug, please release it! Then go here and fill out information about your area, temp, etc, and be sure to upload the photos of your ladybugs before you submit the form! That's all you need to do!

Over the river and through the woods...
Wow, I didn't know there were so many different types of ladybugs. I don't know if we have any 9 spotted ones (never bothered to count) but I know we had the 2 spotted ones here last year. I'll keep my eyes open!
