Well its 86 Degrees currently here... Its late April... it should be in the mid-upper 60's and springy! You know flowers blooming, feels great outside with just a tshirt and jeans? Maybe some flipflops? Our average temp for today is 71! Sounds perfect! But no its 86! Seesh!
Anyone else live somewhere that missed out on Spring?

On the bright side, 86 means we are taking "Mean Green" (the MG B) out for a cruise after the beau fixes the fan on her! It will feel mighty good having the top down in this heat!

And dont get me wrong I do love summer! But I love it more when there is AC and/or a beach involved!!

The normal high for these parts at this time of year is the mid 60s and we've been getting upper 80s right now too. But, at least we have a breeze. Actually, it's really windy because of a major storm that's suppose to be here tomorrow. I'm thinking it will be out your way in a day or so.

its hot here today as well...close to 90 degrees...I don't mind at all since I LOVE summer weather but I wish it could have waited until NEXT weekend since I'm stuck in the house working on finals....

BUT my wonderful fiance did drag me out of the apartment and we walked to starbuck's across the street for some iced chai.
what a sweetie!! It was the perfect break...now I should go back to my papers...since i have 15 more pages to write....

The only good thing I can say right now is hopefully it will go back to normal in a day or so.

It's so hot in my apartment I decided to turn the air conditioner on just long enough to cool it off. The thing made so much noise it scared Chester.

Needless to say I am not happy

The air conditioner is only two years old. It should not be failing. The only bright side I can see is at least it is early in the season. Hopefully I can get it repaired or by a new one before it really gets hot.

Have you been regularly caring for it? If it's a wall unit they have to have filters changed and regular maintenance. If it's a unit outside they need to be cleaned, filters need to be changed inside, and they too need maintenance. Two years or not, if an AC unit hasn't been cared for (or let freeze up too many times) they can mess up in no time.

It's 73F here right now, we're having storms and currently in a tornado watch. The worst of the storms blew over earlier (ones with definite tornado danger) so it's just rumbling out now. It has been up to 91F a few days ago, but that's normal for Oklahoma.

It's a wall unit mounted in a sleeve so that it looks like everyone else. The only filter is on the front panel. It's supposed to just pull up and out to be cleaned.

I must confess that I am not good about the filter. And I've been told that a dirty filter will not necessarily make this noise.

My real problem is the thing is mounted at the top of the wall and I can't reach it to pull the filter out. The reason for replacing the 5 year old one that came with the apartment was because it had knobs and I could not reach them to turn it on and off.

I had to get a tall person to turn it on then I would unplug it or flip the breaker when I wanted to turn it off. The "new" one has a remote control.

Before you suggest a ladder, let me mention that I have trouble with stairs so climbing is not an option.

I wouldn't suggest a ladder, I hate ladders and am very accident prone.

The filter wouldn't cause noise, no. But if it's full (the joys of having a cat), it's not good for it. It's probably a combination of AC care being difficult for you and maybe the brand. A lot of newer ones definitely aren't built to last.

Hopefully it's just dirty there's just stuff in the coils that cleaning (hose it out) and changing the filter can help. Otherwise it could be either the fan motor or even the compressor. If it is the compressor, and a repair main will probably tell you this too, you might as well replace it - better yet if it's still under warranty.
My father in laws happens to be in that business and DH has worked on them - which is how I know some of this stuff.

But one thing that is very vital is that one must always take care of their heating and air units - make sure they're in good working condition before surprise warm fronts move in early (or surprise cold front for heating). This is advice to everyone! Write it down on the calender and make it an appointment every spring and fall. And if you call in someone to service or replace anything, make sure they're a good reputable business that stands behind their work.

That would be my boyfriends car... flat black and no ac. But please note the reason it doesnt have ac is that he took it out because it weighed too much lol!

I know exactly this! Here in NYC it has been 80-90 degrees the past two days, and it's suppose to be for the next couple as well! I work at a garden center in Red Hook, outside all day in the blazing sun, sun burnt! It's nuts! What the heck happened to spring??!!!

I have a black camero with t-tops. It really heats up fast. I also need to get the AC fixed. We're hoping the place that quoted $150 is correct... another place wanted over nine hundred and wanted to replace the whole compressor (FIL says the compressor is fine).

Please try getting out earlier to ride them. You've already fainted once, if you were to do so from atop a horse you could be seriously injured.
I'm sure they would rather not be out in their tack in full heat, either. Also be careful out in the heat alone, if you ever feel lightheaded or your ears ring, don't drive.
And when you do have to be out in it, make sure to drink something that has added electrolytes and plenty of water. Wear sunscreen and a hat.
