Princess was neutered yesterday, & when the vet was checking her over, said she had a heart murmur, & that they got to keep an eye on her!

My Meeko has a 2/3 heart mumur.
I found out she had it when she almost died as a kitten.
She will be 9 in June.
Did the vet say what grade the murmur is?
They can do heart scans also.
My cat had them before.

My grandmother's young cat has a murmur, and her vet recommended she see a feline cardiologist for it...I suspect that's pretty expensive though.

If she is a kitten she might grow out of it.
she's 1 the end of this month. it's stunted her growth, so she's small for her age, but other than that she's a healthy girl.

Many cats have heart murmurs and do just fine. Also, there are a variety of types of murmurs and if she is just a kitten, it may be benign and not bother her at all.

I would ask for more info so you know exactly what you are dealing with. Ask for a copy of the records and a more thorough explanation!

If you are real worried you can ask for the heart test.
It is expensive but it might make you feel better.
Meeko had a grade 2 heat murmur when I found she had one so it got slightly worse but she is almost 9.
How much does your cat weigh?
My Oreo is only 5.12 pounds and her heart is tilted and not in the right place.
She has fcks and was half the size of the other kittens when I got her.
Amazing she does not have heart problems as far as we know.
Does your cat play a lot.

i'm not sure how much she weighs, they never weighed her which is rather odd.. yeh she's very playful & active, but she was the "runt" of the litter, i just thought that was due to the other kittens being greedy & pushing her out, as we had to part with Prince (her brother) because of it.

That is odd that the vet did not weigh her.
My cats get weighed every time they go to the vet.
i know, all they said was it's a slight murmur, & that they want to see her again soon.

I do not know if clinics weigh them but the vet does.
Sasha was spayed in Feb and she was weighed.
They took her temp and heart rate and everything.
All my cats were weighed before they were spayed.
Did you go to a clinic or vet?

Does your vet do any vitals when you go there?
Next time ask them to listen to her heart and have them weigh her.
They also should check her mouth and ears and take her temperture.
My vet does it everytime we go.

Mistoflees has had one for years. Vet told me he had one at his last checkup, he's 17 years old

My Mom's cat had a heart murmur and she lived to a rip old age. She was on medication and they had to take her to the Cardiologist 2x a year. It is manageable, but the Cardiologist can be expensive.

All three of mine were weighed before their spays and neuter, but they always get weighed at their yearly checkups as well.

Was it a private vet or somewhere like the PDSA or The Blue Cross. Even so their always thorough anyway.
