A lady cares for a feral colony near mine, and there's a couple of cats there I still need to TNR.

She called me tonight and told me that she just noticed one of the cats is suddenly SUPER fat - swallowed a beach ball type fat...

So I'm going to go out tomorrow night and try to trap her. I wouldn't be able to get her an appointment until Monday, but at least if I can have her in my recovery cage - if she has the babies she'll do them in the safety of my house rather than in the wild.

I'll try the next few nights, so keep your fingers crossed I can trap her in time!

I don't know if I'd prefer her to have the kittens in the next couple of days at my house, or have to make the decision to get them aborted. The decision isn't an issue if I don't know in advance that they're pregnant!

Sarah, it's going to be whatever it's going to be, try not to fret.
(If she's that far along, abortion may not be an option anyway).

That said.... you'll be able to trap her before she has the kittens!

Well I believe I've found someone who can care for her and the kittens while I'm away and is experienced with ferals, so if I get her we'll let her have the babies. That will be an experience.

I got her! She's VERY pregnant, and a little more stressed than a regular feral, so hopefully she'll calm down soon.

for the cats to do all you do. Only very special people go to these lengths to help these sweet critters. God bless you.

Success....
even though she is stressed to the max, wild Mama and her kittens, if she keeps them to term, will be safer in captivity, than out in the wild.

Thank you Sarah.

My foster home fell through and there's no babies yet. Need vibes to find a backup foster home and that she has babies soon. It'll be easier to get a foster home if she has the babies.

Sigh, I'm almost ready to give up and just get her spayed on Monday if she doesn't have the kittens by then. I don't think I could kill the kittens that are almost ready to be born though.

The cat rescue groups around here are SO rude. They assume you're just another person trying to dump a pregnant cat. Despite telling them about my experiences, exactly what has happened, and naming people from different organisations they are sure to know. I went to 2 different groups today at adoption fairs - I figured they're more likely to talk to me in person - and both groups were so rude. All I was asking is if they can take her for 5 days while our friend is in our spare room - I have a cage, and all the supplies she'd need. One lady scoffed (after I'd told her exactly where I trap, and that I volunteer at the shelter they all use for spay and neutering) and said to one of the other ladies "oh, the old 'please take my cat for 5 days trick', yeah how many times have we heard that one?". I was ready to punch the silly cow. I think I look and sound like a genuine person - it's easy to pick the crazies.

I'm so angry... I always try to help out others in a bind.

Sarah, it's one of the reasons we never worked with any of the groups around here. Apart from the fact they're all under-staffed and under-funded, they were all just SO mean and rude!

Have you tried an e-mail campaign to all the orgs in your area you can find on petfinder?

It's also the reason I work on my own. I have one contact who is awesome, but she's also "retired" from offical rescue work, so just helps me out where she can, and couldn't this time.

I've emailed every group asking for help, so hopefully something will come of that.

I have experienced that same attitide here. I always try to look at it like they have seen so much trauma, abuse and neglect of these animals that it starts to make their view jaded towards humans, even the ones who are trying to help.

Im sorry you are going through that Sarah. Hopefully you will find something soon.

I just had another rescue email me and tell me "If the cat has kittens, it is your deal, you should have had a plan to spay her asap before trapping." I feel like beating my head against a wall.
