My cat Goofy has found that the cable box gets quite warm, and has taken to sleeping on top of it. (She loves the warm sun, warm blankets, warm people etc) My father noticed one day that when he flips the box over and shakes it little pieces of what look like skin fall out. Is this safe for Goofy? She gets off and her side will be warm but nothing extreme and she goes and "cools off" before she gets back up there. My mom and I thought that these things that look like little pieces of skin might be pieces of fur that have gotten singed into little pieces. Any help or experience with this would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to kick her off of her safe little sleeping place unless its doing her harm.

I would be sure to vacuum out the vents regularly. It could be a moisture buildup while the kitty is sleeping there and the dust is clumping. I don't think it would be harmful to the kitty.

It doesn't seem like a cable box could get hot enough to do any harm. You can probably tell by feeling it yourself. If it doesn't feel too hot, it probably is OK. My cats like to lie on top of our computer monitor. My husband isn't too crazy about that, but I told him to get over it. If you're really finding singed pieces of fur then I guess it's too hot. Maybe it's something else you're finding but what is anybody's guess.
