Hey guys sorry I haven't been around much its been a crazy semester.

I am going to be giving a presentation at the Mathematical Association of America-Wisconsin sector meeting in La Cross on Friday and I am REALLY freaking out about it. It has to be a 25 minute presentation and some of my professors are going to be there along with Mathematics professors and majors from all over the state. I am one of 3 students from Platteville that are giving presentations so its kind of a big deal, and a representative from the grad school I'm trying to get into will hopefully be there, which puts a little more presure on me not to bomb. Its a 2 day conference so thankfully I speak on day 1. My presentation is at 1 on Friday.

Vibes needed that I keep my lunch down while I'm up there.

Oh and in case anyone is curious I'm talking about Polynomial Root Dragging.

We have maybe...100 math majors on campus. Platteville is an Engineering school in South West Wisconsin. Anyone could have given a speech I was just 1 out of 3 of us crazy enough to try...lol. Oddly enough the other 2 are 2 of my friends and there both speaking at the same time, wouldn't you figure.

Anyway thanks for the vibes. Its about a 2 hour drive so vibes for a safe trip would also be greatly appreciated because I'm driving and I think my transmission is starting to go out.

Well good luck with your presentation!

Make sure you take some deep breaths, look up a the audience and speak slowly with some pauses in your speech!! Will you be having a question and answer section or handouts?? If you have your topic typed out make sure its double or tripled spaced with a large font so you don't lose your place in your notes.

Also have a glass of water handy and you will have a dry mouth.

Over the river and through the woods...
Many, many "good luck" going your way, both for the presentation and the trip!

I hate giving presentations. One thing that helps me is thinking of them as a rollercoaster. You can try to prepare yourself the best you can, but once you are there and strapped in, just hang on for the ride until it's over.
You will do fine though, you KNOW you know your stuff, so that is what is important. I'll be thinking about you on Friday!

I will have to see what time looks like, with the proof i have to walk people though I don't know if I will have time for questions at the end or not, I haven't practiced yet. I just made the power point with the key points on it, and will be writing out more detailed notes for me to use. Thanks for the tip about the water, I will keep that in mind. Hmm...maybe a hand out wouldn't be such a bad idea but then again it would be kind of a waste of paper because after my presentation they won't need it for anything else.

In the snow!!!!
Pick a handful of people around the room that you will occasionally make eye contact with. I don't know anything about your topic, but you can always try and interject humor. Also, be careful if you are going to use a laser pointer, it will give away shaking hands Every Time.

You will do great! Best of Luck

Oh no, for a safe trip!!

Oh, if you're the nervous type speaking in front of a large group (most people are), try imagining everyone sitting there in their underoos

In TX, but will always be a Michigan-boy.
Pretty much a stepping stone for any career you get involved. PR is a must, even be it a career in math. Take it easy, and come out of it with a learning experience and confidence.

With that said, best of luck.

If you got tranny issues, ask away. Check the fluid first off and if it's slipping, may want to add a friction modifier. If it is indeed slipping, you're on borrowed time, but that friction modifier may give you a bit more life.
