I notice a circular sore on Levi's lip yesterday. I did a very quick & short look up. It seems like it's either a rodent ulcer, or possibly from feline herpes. It is pretty much a given that Jordan has FH. I have never noticed one of these sores before. Now I am wondering if it has to do with the stress of the fighting that has been going on in the house. Or could he have cut himself on the cage that I brought home from the shelter? He is eating fine, so I'm keeping an eye on the sore to see what happens. I will be making a trip to the vet on Saturday to have Jordan's blood calcium level checked & Isaac needs a sanitary shave. So if Levi's lip isn't looking better by tomorow or Thursday when I call I will try to get him in to see a vet. (The cats must know I should be getting my tax return this week so they decided to be expensive)

It sounds like something has flared up due to the stress in your home. If you think he has herpes, it's probably an ulcer and flare up caused from the stress in your home. After you take him to the vet, you might want to get a Feliway diffuser and see if that helps with the stress. While at the vet, have him tested for herpes using the Idexx Real PCR URD test. It's extremely accurate for herpes.

I was thinking it was related to the stress. He seems to be the one most afraid of the other cats at this point. He has always been more intrested in being with me than with the other cats. I do have a Feliway deffuser. I went and got it when the fighting all started. It's intresting because the vet has always just said that Jordan has F.H. but has never tested him. Levi on the other hand has always been super healthy & had a good immune system, that's why this supprised me a little bit.

I have heard many people talk about, Feliway diffusers, do those really work?
What, exactly are they?

It is a plug in deffuser, kind of like the glade plug-ins. Instead of a scent people can smell, it is a scent that is meant to smell like feline facial pheremones to cats. I think it's basicly supposed to be like the scent they have in their scent glands on their face & that is supposed to help calm them down. It is not really doing any good in my place, but i know in the past it has worked to calm Isaac down when he was being a bully to Levi.

It works for many cats, but for some it doesn't. It works wonders in my home and I can always tell when I forget to change it. The cats start fighting!

I'd look into getting your cats tested for herpes and also join the Yahoo Feline herpes group. Lots of help and support there.
