So I have the hartz ultra guard that caused problems with cats.

I already used it - do you think its ok to use the next 2 vials????

Also how long till these meds expire?

What could i use instead on my cat. He is indoors and I just use the cheaper stuff in case mosquitoes get in the house or my dog brings in ticks.

thanks

I'm sure someone else will come along with the dangers of using over-the-counter flea medications.....but I am wondering WHY would you want to use a product that you know causes problems with cats??

If you're looking for flea and tick preventative call your veterinarian. They will write you a script for Advantage or Revolution.

Oops. I accidentally pm'd you that it was Advantix, it's not, it's what whiteforest said - Advantage. Your pm box is full so I couldn't respond back

The ONLY reason I would use the last 2 drops would be because I used the 1st one from the box and my cat was ok - leading me to think that the last 2 would be ok. I thought that the issue was with certain batches of the product - not the whole line of products.

My plan was to switch to something else after this box.

Thanks for the help...

The entire line of product is HORRIBLE and completely ineffective. I'd throw it out, I mean it cost you like what, $4 or something? Save your money for decent SAFE flea control.

Just to be on the safe side, I would toss it. Even thinking it might cause a problem is enough to make me not want it on my cats. I wouldn't want to put my kitty at risk.

Youre right - Ill throw it out for sure. I just have this weird OCD thing with wasting stuff -but this for sure is serious enough to try something else.

I use frontline on my dog (thats ok - right??) and I spray her with a non-toxic mosquito repellent. I know cats cant be near essential oils - are there any sprays you guys could recommend that would be safe?

Thanks again

Make sure you don't use the dog's flea treatment on a cat; you have to get one meant for cats.

I wouldn't use a spray. I think it's a bad idea, because it puts the chemicals on the fur where the cat will lick them. The spot flea treatments are applied only once a month, don't go into the air or eyes or fur, and are very effective. Frontline, Advantage and Revolution are the ones that work. Other flea treatments like Hartz don't.

Re not wasting the money you spent on the Hartz, if the product has been recalled you can return it to the pet store or manufacturer, and they may give you your money back.
