I was so angry with her I left the room. I knew I would say something that couldn't be taken back. I have always told her if she wants it cut. I would take her to the hairdresser. I know it is only hair. It will grow back. I am so upset right now.

Glad to hear that you've calmed down now. I can completely understand why you were upset. My daughter at 7 decided to cut the tangle out of her hair because she was tired of brushing it.
Luckily it was only a chunk on the top that I could cover by pulling her hair into a ponytail.

Sounds like she is growing up..... too fast eh

Ohhhh, great idea, and thx for posting about the length.... I didn't know that and my DD has said that once her hair is down below her butt, she wants to donate some of it. Right now it is just shy of 3ft from scalp to end, and so healthy. I would love her hair.... her only problem with it is that it is straight.

And you WILL look back on it and laugh.

I'm glad you you've handled it so well. That would be upsetting. Eventually you will probably laugh- but that's a heck of a shock. My brother gave me a 'haircut' when I was about four years old. I wish my mom had taken pictures!! I would love to see how bad it was now

I took picture. I will put them in her scrapbook with a clump of her hair. The hairdresser was almost in tears. Raina's bangs are now about 1" long. They had to take about 3" off the sides and back to fix it. The reverse mohawk will have to grow out. The hairdresser also sprayed her hair with glitter. She told her she looked like a princess. Apparently my Daughter is not the only budding hairdresser. They had two cousins one 4 and one 6 , last week they did each others hair. The Mom and Grandma were screaming at the girls the whole time. Telling them how awful they looked.

I'm so glad to hear you got a picture and kept some hair. It will be so much fun lots of years from now embarrassing all her friends and BFs! And you two will get to share some laughs and fond memories

Your hairdresser is smart ... hair glitter!

That's awful. Children remember this sort of thing - it hurts. Hair simply isn't worth demeaning a person over.

I probably would have lost customers, but if someone did that to their children in a shop I was working at I would have spoken up.

Was her hair long enough to donate? And look at the bright side of this - spring and summer are coming up and it will be a bit cooler and lower maintenance (if she plays outside) than longer hair is.

Locks of Love is not a program for cancer patients.

It's for long term hairloss (cancer is short term, most of the time) like alopecia.

And the kids/people helped by the program do have to pay an amount for the wig, it isn't free.

Perhaps the Pantene program instead? I haven't heard too many bad things about that one.

There is only a clump that would be long enough. Right at the top of her head. I am going to put it in her scrapbook. I need to find some spray glitter. She absolutely loves the glitter.

Just make sure to get the silver glitter one. If they try to tell you the coloured ones are glitter, they are not. They are colour streaking hair spray and they can make a huge mess. I've seen employees say its hair glitter and it comes in the same type of container.

I SHAVED BOTH of my eyebrows off! My poor mom about had an heart attack when she saw me. She said I looked like an alien with no eyebrows and refused to have any pics taken of me until they grew back!

When she asked me why in the world I shaved my eyebrows, my response was - It was the only facial hair I had and I wanted to shave just like my daddy!!

Thankfully, my eyebrows grew back and aren't too bad looking.

Glad you left the scene. I also did this when I was young, long blonde hair, snip snip. It wasn't logical, but then again what about that age is logical?

Hee! It must be the age!

When my son was four, he cut his beautiful blonde hair in big clumps. Not only that he cut the dog's hair at the same time.

I have to admit that I did let out quite the shreek when I saw it, then booked him an appoinment asap at the hair dressers!

I have pictures. Somewhere.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. I wanted to shave but I hated the stubble on my mom's legs during the summer so I opted for the eyebrow.

Yikes! I bet that was a shock!

I wish I could find my cousin's family Christmas picture, when her son, Ryan, was 4 or 5 years old! The day before the photo session, he cut all the hair off the right side of his head (right down to skin.) The family picture is absolutely hilarious. Everyone is looking at the camera, but Ryan is a perfect side shot of the left side of his head!

Thank you, kluchetta! You have given me my biggest laugh so far today with that one! I so often feel like one of those "terrible moms", too.
