nasty little bugs with big pinchers on their buts. If they get in your ears, they burrow in and live there. and they aren't small. maybe what? 1.25 inches long and skinny?

My grandmother got one and she said she could feel it moving around in her head.

I don't know how much of the myth about them is true, but I do remember that happening to gramma. Of course.... it still could just be a 'story'. my family tends to exaggerate

Thanks for the nice large picture.
It's all myth, by the way. They eat plants - but you still don't want one crawling out on your hand when you reach into a cabinet, it's about as unsettling as a roach.

yeah doesn't surprise me. I wasn't going to throw in the myth stuff trying to scare lil maggie but I couldn't do it :p

I've seen lots of them. when I lived in montana they were everywhere.

Those and those darn box elder bugs. Those things have nests of MILLIONS of them. they just cover a window sometimes

Thank you thank you thank you for not hurting or killing it! He is quite pretty and I'm very glad that you helped him on his way.

I was dog sitting for my parents once and I opened the back door to let them out and saw a 5' black rat snake. Unfortunately one dog was already out but the snake seemed pretty lethargic (cold) so I quickly brought her back in before she got curious. In the mean time DH was freaking out because I was trying to grab the snake. I knew it wasn't venomous and it seemed pretty calm. Well, he wouldn't let me handle it per say so I grabbed his tail and used one of those plant sprinklers (an improve snake hook) to lift it into a cooler DH had grabbed from the garage. We safely relocated him to a near by field and let him go. Once we got back to the house I saw a bunny nest in the neighbors yard... I think we interrupted lunch!

ETA that I see now that a nice big full color picture of these has already been posted
Ya, you really should warn a girl. I loathe earwigs. I don't mind snakes or spiders but earwigs will make me scream and run away.

Snakes freak me out.
When I was young, we moved into a new home, in a newly developed subdivision that was surrounded by a lot of trees and a lake and a golf course that had just opened, so A LOT of disturbed landscape all around had taken place.

One Saturday morning, we got up and were preparing for the day, when we heard my Sis screaming. There was a very fat, 5 foot long snake in our living room.
That fear has never left me.

A few years ago we found one in the pool and had to redo the whole backyard to keep that from never happening again.

I don't mind snakes, but several years ago we had 4 baby (about 1 ft long) copperheads come in the house. NOT a pleasant experience. We are all scared to touch anything for weeks in case there were more. Sorry to all the snake lovers but those kind DO get killed if my family, not released.

I want to buy a house in the country but this would be the reason I don't think I could do it.
Snakes are beautiful and lovely but I can't be near them. When I was younger my brother put a snake in my bed and I haven't been able to go near one since. I've been working on it though with our local pet shop. I can now go near it, touched one once without crying. At least I don't vomit anymore.
