Its a beautiful day here today. I decided I'd strap up the kitties (one at a time) and take them for a walk.

I've got tinker in my hand, and I open the front door. There, stretched all the way across the door jam, is a 5 foot King snake.

Now, I know enough about snakes to identify it, so I know it's not poisonous, it's a constrictor. But come on, it's a SNAKE!!!!

Thankfully Tinker didn't see it, I lob her into the living room so i know she's far away, and use my foot to shoe the snake out. yes, it had started coming IN to the house to play cards or something. I still can't believe i dind't get bit. I didn't kick it, I put my foot to it's head, and kind of pushed it out. it left, and i had to run through the house to find my camera. by the time i did it was only about 3 feet out, so i got some pictures of it, i'll upload them later. but it startled me BAD. I am very thankful mom wasn't here.

of course I let it go on it's way. it wrastles rodents and stuff, so it's a good thing to leave them alone.

Exciting day though

Whoa! Well that was a surprise greeting. I like snakes and would some day like to have one. But being greeted by one so unexpectedly... well let's just say the neighbors would have heard my surprise,

Kingsnakes tend to be snake eaters. Natural control for species that can be more harmful. But they also tend not to be that aggressive, so it doesn't surprise me that the snake peacefully went on it's way.
Thank you for not trying to harm it!

He's beautiful, but I agree - I wouldn't want him for a houseguest.

What, no card game?!

Seriously, though, I can see you tossing your kitty through the air to get her away from the snake just in case!

Well that was a different start to the day!!

Reminds me of last year when my sister found a snake curled up in the cat bed and another under the sofa she was taking a nap on!!

We don't have much problems with snakes here in Wisconsin and they don't get very large either!!

hehe. well king snakes aren't dangerous. BUT there are lots of water moccasins (pit viper) and THOSE are the ones to be afraid of.

The scary part is they're small. smaller than this one, and people mistake them for garter (garden) snakes all the time!

I love snakes - and I would have been a little startled too, but not afraid - I'd probably grab it behind the head and call hubby to bring me a carrier or something to put it in.

I'd much rather see a 5 foot snake on my step then a black and white striped kitty...................skunk!

Same here. I've had some really close calls with skunks... it seems the same thing that makes me attractive to cats works on skunks and other animals, too. I have them try to come up to me. \t

At least there's no earwigs here. When I live in the UP they'd come crawling out of everything... Now those things seriously creep me out!
