So kitties have definitely expressed a love for the raw chicken tenderloin I've been feeding them, so today we decided to get some more balanced raw.
We got the following:
Chicken wings (skin on)
Chicken gizzards & hearts (more gizzard than heart)
A sloshy container of chicken livers that I'm scared of
A beef Kidney.

Tonight I gave them one chicken wing, skin still on, broken into two pieces. Trinity got the wing tip and attached segment, Loki got the shorter and meatier shoulder-ish part. I didn't know what to do with it so I just kind of cut into it a bit and put it down for them. They did pretty well, though they were confused about how to go about getting the meat off the bone.
Should I be doing anything to encourage them, esp. to crunch on the bones?

Also...the gizzards and hearts can be fed as a meal, right?

And as for the chicken livers and beef kidney...what should I do to them and how often to feed? I need to prepare & freeze whatever they won't eat in the next few days.

This is intimidating, I'm afraid of screwing up their delicate kitty balance.

Are they solely eating raw?

Take a giant step back and relax, their balance won't be off in a matter of days. You have about a month to balance their requirement.

Are they crunching bone?

Hi!

Looks like you're off to a great start, willing kitties can be hard to come by! (From what I read anyway, I have zero personal experience with finicky cats
)

I've been feeding my kitties (4 & 7 years old) raw since they got here. I've never done chicken wings though...they're just not meaty enough. To get them into crunching, I would try something more user friendly (softer bones) like quail or chicken necks. If you're stocked up on wings though, I would pound them a bit before feeding until they get into the groove.

You could offer a meal of offal/muscle meat alone. I usually do a small serving of gizzard, heart, liver, etc as an accompaniment to the less meaty meals I may give. (Like when I serve turkey or chicken backs.)

Chicken (or hen) drumsticks and quartered cornish hens are the usual fare. They also get whole quail or rabbit parts evey now and then or turkey backs w/ liver and/or heart. I've been known to make a meal out of canned salmon or tuna or tripe and raw eggs in a pinch. I also give fish oil and wellness wellTabs sporadically.

P.S. When did we get a raw feeding sub-forum? Way neat!!
