I look through the ads in the pet section and sometimes what I see upsets me. Most recently, it's people trying rehome 6 week old kittens.

When I posted a message stating WHY that isn't a good idea, of course, I got flagged. But it did start a mini-firestorm of debate about appropriate age to rehome kittens ( as well as pups.)

So, it's a public forum and I guess a little public debate is not such a bad thing.

It also ticked me off that I got flagged, probably by someone trying to rehome too-young kittens. So, I just intend to keep on posting. I got emails in support of my position, too, which is nice.

Guess I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night, sitting home with a sore throat!

I agree that 6 week old kittens shouldn't be taken from their mothers and re homed, and Craigslist may be guilty of advertising such. I can only hope that the people taking in the kittens are more responsible then the ones giving them.
Craigslist is where I found Maia, which many know is the absolute love of my life and furry soul mate! She was definitely to young. I met the person at a train station in Brooklyn who had her in a duffel bag. It was instant love! Here's a pic of her first day home with me....

I had her on milk supplement for a week or 2, that's what she is drinking in the pic. She was very tiny, blue eyes, not a clue what kitty litter was, couldn't eat solids, but purred all the way home in my arms!
I get so upset and sad when I see so many people that are trying to find new homes for their cats, some a few years old, some elderly, on Craigslist! To many people give no though to the fact that once they bring a kitty into their home, they should be responsible enough to ensure them a happy, healthy life. If you can't do that, then you don't deserve and shouldn't have one!

Yeah, she was definitely too young to be away from her mom and sibs. And yes, the rehoming of the older animals ticks me off, too. There was a story in The Detroit News about foreclosure and job loss driving a lot of this.. but some people are using it as an excuse to get rid of their pets - as in - it's not really a problem but no one is going to judge you if you say those are the issues.

I was on Craigslist a bit ago myself.. something that really irked me was when one such poster returned to say their kittens had all been given away.. how they hoped the people were legit (they seemed strange and aggressive), but it's out of their hands & not their problem anymore.. not their business, etc..

Accountability? Huh? What's that?!

I've heard of people with porn addictions having someone change the password on their internet. Obviously we have a separate problem
, but it might work!

I know how you feel. I cannot simply skim the pet section. Every time I come away angry and sad. Just cannot understand the inhumanity of humans.

How about the link I posted here recently to a person who was...'converting to just dogs' and wanted someone to not only take their uwanted, unspayed/neutered, unvetted cats and pay them a 'rehoming fee'?

Uh...sounds more like you wanted to make some quick money, so you're selling your cats?

Everyday there's a new batch of b/s and crappy people.

We have couple local ads now where people are threatening to euth the cats if someone doesn't come get them.... One is even asking a rehoming fee... the other... please just take the cat. !!!!!!
