Hello,

I've been posting erratically this week due to work and being sick.

After working at a clients house 4 hours yesterday, then attending an open house at a very large plant grower I went to an urgent care clinic.

The doc said bronchitis due to the length of time this has been hanging on and past history.

So yesterday I started the Z-pack and feel a bit better!

Still lots of nose blowing and coughing though (and tiredness!)

But I'm enjoying a glass of wine right now and can actually taste it.

So hopefully in a couple of days I'll be much better.

No sinus infection most likely due to using my neti pot 2 x day since wednesday.

The doc laughed when I said I was blowing and coughing GB Packer colors.

Aww Gail I hope you feel better soon!
I've had it twice since December - no fun at all!!!

The Z-pac helped me a lot! They also gave me "benzonate pearls" or something like that to help with the coughing and something else. (can't remember what! I'm allergic to codine and most other antibiotics, so I think they were limited with what they gave me.)

One thing that REALLY helped though was the steroid shot they gave me, I felt better within hours of getting that! If yours doesn't clear up, maybe you could ask about it!

I also figured out that if I put my cool water humidifier near me when I was sitting down to watch tv or sleep, that helped break up the congestion. These are good too!!! :
Vicks Vapor Inhaler (this is the only thing that opens my nose up when i'm congested! it works instantly! It's about $4...if you have a Walgreens near you, their store brand is just as good. If not sometimes Vicks has coupons on their website) http://www.vicks.com/products/vapor-inhaler
SudaCare Shower Soothers are good too....the steam of the shower helps open up the congestion in your lungs and these are just amazing at making you feel better!
MY favorite is the lavender mint one if you can find it http://www.drugstore.com/qxp149067_3...ng_tablets.htm

Enjoying a glass of wine
! Alcohol cancels antibiotics!
I always get the spring/summer sinusitis then bronchitis atleast once from my allergies. I work at a garden center/nursery, so I know how much it sucks!
Get better soon!

Z-pack doesn't have any warnings about alcohol.

Anyhow 2 small glasses were enough to give me a buzz-Yikes!

Thanks for the tips on the other stuff!! We have a whirlpool bathtub that generates lots of steam-might be using it tonite. But breathing/coughing is much better than yesterday already.

The doc didn't offer any other type of drugs other than the OTC stuff I was using.

A hispanic co-worker recommended a folk remedy which sounded pretty hard for me to drink but was an interesting suggestion!

It just sucks a bit as I had to postpone some landscaping jobs and my schedule is now just a tad bit tighter for the next couple of weeks(not counting weather of course).

I think it's been a bad year for upper respiratory infections. I've had it three times since the first of the year. The first two times, I had the 250mg Z-packs. This last time, my doctor prescribed 500mg Zithromax for 5 days, a steroid inhaler and an albuterol inhaler, as well as a codiene cough syrup (and 4 days off from work!) I finally feel rested and well. I sure hope I'm done with it for a while!

Hope you are feeling better soon. Being able to get lots of sleep seemed to be really helpful this last time. I stayed away from the OTC cold medicines (except Tylenol), and increased my fluid intake. Make sure you get lots of rest. Get well!!!

Aww.. I can definately sympathize with you Gail
I was in the ER on Thursday with brochitis myself. It hit me out of nowhere. I had no sneezing, coughing, runny nose.. nothing.. Just woke up, coughed once and couldn't catch my breath..

So I've been holed up in my room with it too

I started getting sick Wednesday night - being around smoke irritated my bronchi so it just seemed to hit me out of nowhere pretty badly by Thursday morning. Unfortunately, since I'm having some difficulty breathing I'm sure this cold has turned to mild bronchitis, too.
Maybe it's the particular virus strain going around?

I've been taking naproxen and a cold medicine with guaifenesin in it - both seem to help so hopefully I don't need to bother my doctor.

The worst part of getting bronchitis is that lingering cough. I once had a case of it several years ago that had me coughing for over three months! Hopefully it won't be that bad for anyone on here.
One thing people can do to help is to avoid anything that will irritate and inflame their bronchi - a major culprit being cigarette smoke. Being around this or smoking makes healing from bronchitis take a lot longer.
