Wondering if a mau colour expert can answer this. My mau boy is silver/black, and not tarnished by bronze, but his pedigree has a few bronzes in it and his sire was smoke. My mau female is a pure silver/black, almost white. Her pedigree is clear of bronzes. My four kittens are all silver/black, but the two largest have very fuzzy kitten coats and we have noticed that they almost have a pink tinge to them in the light. Is that what is called tarnish? The two smallest have thinner coats and have nice even spots.

When they were born they were all silver/black with good contrast. I was told that their newborn coat is a good indicator of their eventual coats. The kitten fuzzies stage will tend to hide their actual coat colour.

It was true with the Oci kittens. The coats were nice and clear. But in the case of the cinnamon-silvers, the cinnamon colors were not as dark as hoped as the kittens were when born. I would guess that since they are carrying bronze on both sides, you would get a bit of tarnishing.

Nial has worked with a lot of the silvers and the browns in Bengals. Maybe he has some info for you.

Hello again,

I went to Mexico with my family right after posting and the kittens were house-sat for a week. It's amazing how much they can grow in 7 days.

Will be taking some pics this week.

PS - no I don't have swine flu, but my sister caught a cold/flu of some type and is at home on swine flu alert until they finish her tests.

I was hoping to keep a male, but the last check with the vet came up with 4 females. There were four of us looking, and even at 9 weeks it was hard to tell. I am holding off naming them until their second booster shot when we'll try to sex them again. I still may keep a female to show.
