We've had our kitten, Gizmo, for one month and he's been fine up until now. On the way home from work I called my husband and he said Gizmo's got the runs. He's been pooping loose stools since I came home too. Neely, our other cat is fine and both cats are indoors only. We haven't changed food yet so I can't figure out what's wrong. He doesn't have the run of the house either so I know he hasn't gotten into anything. On the positive side he's acting normal, playful and wants to eat so I gave him a little food. Is that ok? I'm calling the vet first thing in the morning but just trying to guess what it could be.

In kittens diarrhea is usually from worms or some form of intestinal parasite. Have you gotten him dewormed yet? The vet should be able to tell from a fecal sample. Try to get one before you take him in so it makes it faster. If he has no other symptoms that sounds like the most likely culprit. Most parasites are easily treated with medications so hopefully that's all it is. Good luck with your baby and keep us updated!!

Thanks for the good wishes. Update - went to the vet today and she said he was "very" gassy. She temporarily put him on w/d, then we will change to a good quality, no preservatives food. He was previously on Iams Kitten before we got him.
The vet also gave him a low dosage shot of Baytril which he will get for the next 4 days. He was a little hesitant to eat the w/d at first but finished his dinner and so far no runny puddles in the litter box.
