Help me choose a grain free food?

I am trying to choose a good food for my cats. Can anyone tell me which of these foods they think is best? I am using Orijen right now but I am hoping to find another good quality food that is more affordable and easier to get since I am now feeding 7 cats (and 5 are still growing).

I did not go into the natural vs synthetic vitamins

Ok but which one do you think is the best quality?

Not sure if this is an option for you, but I feed Taste of the Wild. I can get it for $18/large bag (maybe 16 lb bag?). It's regular priced $21 or so....and I get a discount every time due to a local promotional thing.

That's a great price! I pay $25/big bag for TOTW. It's still much more affordable than many other high quality foods though.

Of the choices given I would try the GO first

I feed Before Grain Chicken. The reason I went with it is because it has the lowest percentage of crude protein (36%). I tried Evo and Core and Orijen (all up around 50%), but they were so rich for my cats, they had soft stools all the time. Wellness (not the grain free kind) also gave them soft stools. Merrick's Before Grain is pretty much the same price as the Wellness, and they've been on it for 5 months and doing great. The only thing I don't like about it is that the kibble comes too crumby and the cats don't like crumbs!!

But I think it all depends on the cat. The best variety of cat food might not be the best for any one particular cat if her body doesn't agree with it. I'm not an expert, but I've read a lot of ingredient lists, and himm'd and hawed about all kinds of foods, and honestly, it's almost like splitting hairs. It really comes down to what your cats do the best on, all while not breaking the bank.

each cat is different ... I luckily have five who seem to do well on the same foods

You know, it would be nice to have all your coded ingred lists in one spot so you don't have to redo em everytime it comes up. Was just thinking that since i know you coded TOTW for me awhile back....

Perhaps a sticky could be made? It would be a great reference post for sure

it has been discussed ... and it would be easier for me too but alas it has a difficulty factor

Ooooh, I posted my question in another thread but I think I might try Taste of the Wild for my cats. Wellness Complete Health gave them both loose stools and I want to stick with a high end grain free dry food in addition to the canned food they already get.

TOTW is a good food, but I saw in your other thread that you are suspecting allergies. I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think TOTW is a good food for ruling out allergies due to some of the ingreds. (chicken, peas, salmon, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries...)

It is a really good food tho IMHO.

Yeah, now I've decided to try California Natural instead. Much fewer ingredients.

I just got some Taste of the Wild samples yesterday. It says Rocky Mountain Feline Formula with Roasted Venison and Smoked Salmon on the front.

The vet says I should use a food with more Omega Fatty acids for Bakker (and it would probably help Grizzly too) for the licking issues. But I had just picked up some Pro Plan sensitive skin/stomach food and the Nutro naturals that had a good amount of Omega 3's. So I'm not going to try another one at this time.

My boy eats very little dry, but he only eats high quality (in wet, his major diet, I can't get him to eat premium!). He likes Taste of the Wild but recently has been eating Fromm's Surf and Turf--also grain free.
