Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Here's the text of the Amendment:

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Definitely a strong move! IMO one that has been needed for decades, but has recently come to a head with the stimulus package that had a lot of requirements for the States in order to get the money.

It sounds like a much needed move to me, even if it's only symbolic. When the government has gotten away with snatching things from the state's plates long enough, they begin to feel entitled. Getting their hand slapped a time or two will get them back in line.

I agree 100%. I doubt it will have much practical use, but it needs to be done on principle.

This is getting big. There's going to be a major rally tonight in Atlanta about this.

I think the time is long past due that the Federal government got reminded of where their power comes from and the limitations on that power. Some of the legislation in recent years, and some proposed legislation today, is really downright anti-Consitution; probably not intentionally, but from an ignorance of what limits it puts on the government.

The danger of a well-meaning and unintentional but and actual and misguided attack on the Consitution is a much greater and more present danger than the remote possibility of a terrorist attack. Yet people are more worried about their safety and security than about their liberty. You can't have perfect security and freedom; the two are mutually exclusive. There's always some trade-off. I'll take the ratio that tilts toward freedom.
