Since the weather has started getting nicer, we've taken Sasha out in a harness a few times and let her explore the back yard near the house. She's out for about 15 minutes at a time, but now I'm worried about fleas and ticks! We have lots of trees and lots of ticks. Since Sasha is my first cat, I am *really* clueless when it comes to flea and tick prevention.

She's 7 months. What do I use, when and how often? She only goes outside about once a week now, but I'm sure as the weather gets warmer it will be a few times a week. Are there "natural" products or some chemicals that are safer? I mean, she's always cleaning herself so what do you use??

sorry to be so dense, but this is all still new...

Thanks in advance!

I personally use Revolution. It is a liquid that comes in a one time use applicator that is applied to the back of their neck where they can't reach. Applied monthly.

Ask your vet what they use as these are all mostly prescription.

I am not familiar with any natural flea products that you can apply to a kitten/cat. The only ones I have seen at the local organic gro and health food store here have a strong odor. Because fleas and ticks cause so many other health problems I opted for the vet prescribed medication.

Maybe someone has had experience with the natural products.

ask your vet for their recommendation and ask why they recommend that product

Advantage, Frontline, and Revolution are all safe. Ask your vet which one is best in your area. It's not worth trying "natural" flea remedies----they can be more toxic than the vet-quality meds, and not very effective in most cases.

Thanks everyone! Just called the vet and they suggest Frontline, they have Revolution, too, but the girl said it wasn't good for ticks and that is my main concern due to the fact I found a tick walking around in my batroom sink after doing yard work the other day...
