Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
In February, Nikki adopted Holly, an 18-year old kitty in need. Nikki knew her time with Holly wouldn't be long, as Holly was suffering from renal failure.
Holly integrated easily and quickly with Nikki's crew, was doing well, and thrived under Nikki's love and care.

Sadly, Holly's time came too soon.

Though she tried to prepare herself for what she know was going to come too soon, Nikki had to put Holly to sleep today. Nikki said Holly was just too sweet and charming to not get completely attached to her. Of course we all completely understand that!

Nikki, you opened your heart to a senior kitty in need, and the end of her life was filled with dignity and love. It doesn't make the pain of her passing any easier, but I'm sure Holly will do everything she can to send her love your way from over the bridge.

Holly, play happily over the bridge, and eat anything you want and all you want!
Know your meowmy loved you and misses you very much.

Thankyou everyone for your condolences
I really appreciate them. It's just been a really rough day today. I was not expecting this to happen so quickly at all. I'm pretty sure she had a stroke in her litter pan while I was asleep last night because this morning when I went to check on them all and feed/groom them poor little Holly couldn't even move out of the litter pan. (She never did that before- even though she was 18, she had always been spunky, always running up to me for pets and to be held, and always playing with the other kitties.) I knew when she couldn't move her back legs that was it.
My mom was nice today, she came by and drove me and holly to the vet so I wouldn't have to take her alone. I held Holly while they put her to sleep. She passed quickly and peacefully....no more suffering. The vet said he also thought it was a stroke as well (in addition to her other issues, renal failure, etc). She at least lived a long life.

Laurie, thankyou for posting for me, I was just too upset earlier to do it myself, I had a hard enough time posting about her in the PL, I just needed a break before posting here.

I still have her little collar in my purse....my house just seems so much more empty without her. I know I only had her for about 2 months, but she filled a huge hole in my heart during that time and was just such a sweet girl. She always wanted to be picked up and held, she always gave kisses and purred. I miss her soo much

I have a little bit of comfort in the thought that maybe she's now reunited with her old owner. I took her in origionally because little Holly's owner passed away (she was in her 80's and had owned her since she was a little kitten.) That was the only home Holly had ever known. I didn't think she should live out her golden days homeless and in a rescue. She deserved better. I'm glad I was able to take her in, I just wish I would have had more time with my sweet little girl.

I am sorry for your loss.
I think this was a beautiful story/thing to do for Holly and want to say thank you for doing that for her. She was very lucky to spend her last couple months with you.
Hope the pain becomes easier soon.

I am so sorry. It's wonderful how even in a short time they can ease their way into our hearts. I am so glad you could give her a loving home for her last two months.

Nikki.

Rest in peace, Holly.

Nikki, I'm so sorry to hear that Holly had to cross the bridge so soon. I hope you can take comfort though, knowing that you gave that sweet girl a warm, loving home and that she passed knowing she was special.

Play free at the bridge sweet girl

Bless you Nikki, for taking Holly in and giving her a home and love. You have such a big heart....I'm sorry that your time with Holly was so short. I will say a prayer for Holly's sweet little soul, and a prayer for you, that your sadness will lessen in time.
