I know there are several members from Southeastern Michigan, so does anyone have a really great vet they can recommend? I have been to a few vets in the area with my cats, but I seriously disliked them. I ordinarily take my cats to my regular vet in Alpena. I've been really spoiled with them - they're fantastic. If there is an emergency I have/would take my cat(s) to the Michigan Veterinary Specialist 24 hour clinic in Southfield. MVS is really fantastic, but so expensive to be shelling out for anything routine there. I lost interest in finding a vet in the Detroit area after a while, but I think it's time.

For those of you who don't live in the area, what are some good tips for finding a great new vet that you can trust?

Someone mentioned Dr. Margaret Muns, who I know from the old Time Warner Pets Forum on CompuServe and association with Best Friends. She is not practicing, I believe, but she is associated with a clinic near Detroit. Any clinic she is associated with would have to be a very good one!

Maybe someone will speak up about her location.

My vet, here in Midland, graduated from Michigan State University, School of Veterinary Medicine. I absolutely love her. She's very proactive in treating Cleo's renal failure. I've also taken Cleo to MSU, for abdominal ultrasounds, and echocardiograms. I've been very happy with the treatment we received (both Cleo, and myself!) from them. I'd recommend an MSU vet! Too bad that you don't live closer! I recommend my vet's practice to everyone I work with!

I haven't heard from her in some time, although we used to correspond all the time.

That's where my vets in Alpena went to school.
Like I said, I love them. I wish they'd travel with me for my pets.

Also, I'll look into Dr. Muns and associated clinics, thanks!

My boyfriend used Kitty's Doctor in Grosse Pointe Woods on Mack near Vernier. Very good, very nice. (Feline only practice)

Also, high marks to one of our rescue vets - Little Friends of Ferndale ... on 9 Mile Near Campbell (east of Woodward).

I can ask our rescue founder who else is really good... where she takes her own animals for care. She knows everyone.

Hey, whiteforest. I don't know where you live while you go to school. Is it near CCS?

I heard back from our rescue's founder. This is what she wrote:

Metro uses both the VetSelect in Dearborn on Telegraph (Dr. Linda Schrier is wonderful) and the VetSelect in Dearborn Heights (we don't know them as well yet, but they seem to be good). I also really love Dr. Bonnie Burke at Little Friends of Ferndale on 9 mile. I personally use Dr Tim and Dr Alice at Jefferson Vet Clinic for the past 19 years. I would trust them to do a surgery on anybody - they are experts. They have seen me through cancer and fractures and lots of other things. If your friend wants any actual addresses or phones let me know.

Marian and her hubby live in the city (condos near Belle Isle) so I would think Jefferson Vet is on Jefferson Ave. As you can see, she offered contact info, too, so let me know.

ETA: Here is the URL for Jefferson Vet:
http://www.jeffersonvet.com/index.html

ETA2: Looks like you have lots of choices in various locations around the metro area. Good luck with your choice. Feel free to PM me if you have any Qs and I will do my best to try to answer. And give the kitties scritches for me.

Thank you very much!
Jefferson is actually where I take my ferals, but I've never actually met the Drs. or taken my pets there.

Well, I trust Marian's opinion. I think she knows a thing or two about animal care!

It looks like both docs there are MSU grads if that is one of your criteria.

As I said, good luck. You have a number of quality choices.

Yes, I think I will start calling some of these places today to find out what they are like price wise and see if anyone is willing to meet with me briefly. Thank you all again for the suggestions. I don't actually have any friends with pets here so it's nice to have the forum.

I also go to Kitty's Doctor. They are great there and really take their time with the cats and explain everything very well.

Yes. They took wonderful care of my boyfriend's dearly departed cat. And they were especially nice to him! Dr. Adrid seems quite competent.
