Cat Drinking from Toilet?!

I came home today to find my kitten sitting on the toilet seat, drinking water out of the toilet bowl! Can this harm him in any way?

He always has fresh water, I change it out twice a day, but he seems to enjoy toilet water more? Why doesn't he like his water dish? He does use it btw.

Drinking from the toilet is definitely not sanitary for any animal. If its clean then it has chemicals in it, if its not then its full of bacteria. I would just get the habit of closing the lid.

Your kitty might want a larger bowl to drink out of or you might even consider pet drinking fountain, since a lot of cats like moving water.

My kitten loves the toilet water, but she was trying to play in it, then licked her paws. We put an end to that, keep the lid closed or the door shut. Toilet water is not something I'd want them drinking. The fountain is a great idea, I have one and my babies love it. You have to clean it out regularly though.

Get a fountain for him. My in-laws' cat used to do this until I found him a Drinkwell at a rummage sale. It bothered me more than them that he was sticking his paws in the toilet. My MIL said he stopped drinking from the toilet when he had his own fountain.

I keep our toilet lid down all the time and provide a cat fountain so I don't have cats in the toilet.

There are four toilets in my house. There is no doubt in my mind that all of them have the lids down.
