Better than Catnip!!!!!

Has anyone else tried Cat Thyme ? ( Teucrium Marum ). I have two little plants that I bought in my local nursery and my kitties just love it.
A small pinch of it is enough to get them "high". I usually squash a little bit on Cubby's tennis ball and he will chew this. Then if I throw the ball he chases after it, which I want him to do as he is getting fat and needs excercise. Even Mia Mimi, who was totally uninterested in catnip, has found cat thyme to be enticing and has a good sniff and lick of it.
Cubby tends to eats the bits of squashed leaves , then "zone out" for a while, which is handy if I need him to calm down.
i don't believe it is harmful to them - if you know about it and know it is bad, let me know!!! But so far it seems to be a lovely treat for them.

fluffalina: I've seen cat thyme in a few local nurseries over here with the tag of cat attractant to it. I've never tried it though. I've only ever tried catnip, (the dried leaves, I can't seem to find a plant), cat mint, (actual plant), and cat grass, (actual plant).

My two love cat mint and cat grass and can't get enough of it. I'll grab myself some cat thyme the next time I see it and see how it goes.

Another good one is Valerian, also known as Cat's Valerian. You can get dried Valerian root in GNC as a tea, just tear the bags open (or the cats will do it for you LOL). It smells bad to humans, kind of like dirty gym socks, but cats love it. Probably for the same reason they stick their faces in our sneakers when we take them off after being at the gym!

Just a thought- if you post just the link to Poison plants, the website usually has a printer friendly version for their visitors.

Also you can highlight the text then cut/copy and paste in microsoft word and print. That way you can colorize certain text you want to stand out.

I will be filing that away in a handy place. Glad to see Cat Thyme is not on it. i have never noticed any weird things happening to my two kitties after eating it, even though I only give them a very small amount!
