It's been roughly 2-1/2 months post my tendon surgery and the only reason why I didn't heal any faster was because I had huge scar tissue that had to be worked out. Had I started physical therapy earlier, I would have had full use of my hand a month ago. So get yourself into PT quickly and you'll be using that hand again in no time.
Last time I wasn't
I didn't pass out untill after they started the surgery when I had the carpal tunnel releases.

All I know at this point is that I will go in approx. 10 days after surgery to get the stiches removed, and then start PT. How long before you started PT?

When I had the CTR (carpal tunnel release) done, with the first one I listened to my surgeon who said not to move that hand except for wiggling my fingers..... so I was in PT when I had the second one done, and under direction of my PT, he said to move my wrist to the point where it stretched but didn't ouch. I recovered so much faster with the second surgery than the first when I didn't move it.
That surgeon was a general surgeon.... he did my colonoscopy, tubal and CTR.

The surgeon doing this one, is a specialised Hand and Upper limb surgeon.... so I have a little more faith in him, as well as I already have met with my PT... every appt. at this clinic you're dealing with PT prior to seeing the dr. and I really like the PT.... he knows his stuff, doesn't mind questions and is quite easy on the eyes

I had my stitches out at 10 days then didn't make it to physical therapy for about 2-1/2 weeks later. The PT told me that I should have been in the week after the stitches were removed. If you wait too long, the scar tissue builds up and then you have to work it for a longer period of time to work the scar tissue out of your hand. The PT will work around the incision to get the muscles working again.

But the good news: I could do things with my hand 30 days after surgery that I couldn't do prior to surgery. It will amaze you how good you will feel afterwards.

Ohhh, so it was about a month before you actually started PT then. I can definately understand why it took so long for your recovery, just from my experience with the first CTR.

I remember now, we were talking after you got home, and your block still hadn't worn off. When I did the CTR, the block wore off in the hospital ( part of discharge actually) and I had to be given morphine. Hmmmm, hopefully this one will be different and the block will last longer. (different hospital, different surgeon).

ETA: you were writing more as I posted.

I am hoping to have some dramatic changes with this
Between this, and my elbows, those are mainly what cause my inability to have any functionality.... I do expect an increase in problems with my other hand tho.... because of not being able to switch hands, my right will pay the price.... so my fingers are crossed that they get me in within 4-6wks for the other hand.

I asked for a pain killer shot post surgery, then popped in a vicodin before I left the surgical center. The Bier block didn't really wear off until late in the day, and my surgery was very early morning.

I had the same surgeon last year when they had to remove my thumb nail. I guess I gave him all sorts of grief during that surgery (I don't remember any of it), so my guess is that they really medicated me this time around to shut me up.

I'm guessing they will probally have to do some heavy medicating to me as well....I've spent the last 2yrs on a high dosage of pain killers that hardly touch my daily pain, somedays it doesn't touch it at all....even with the CTR, the one hand it took 3 out of 4 available morphine shots to numb the pain.... the other hand, they gave me the max and it did nothing for the pain.

I will definately be mentioning my tolerance to pain meds to them during the pre-op part.

I know that boat! Dosages that would knock out Goliath hardly touch any of my pain, if at all.
Have you ever tried any kinds of alternative pain management?

Good luck tomorrow! There better be a lot of pampering when you get home!

How did it go today? You don't have to type a long response cause you will be one handed for a bit, but a quick update would be greatly appreciated.

Hoping things went well and you are relatively pain free.
