Mons

We took him today because the FIP was progressing quickly and he was starting to breathe funny and whine. We didn't want to wait until he was critical as I didn't want him to suffer. We loved him very much and miss him. He was such a good kitty. Only 9 1/2 months.

So sorry about Mons.
Even though I never met him I am still crying.

The poor baby, such a sweet boy. He was a love when I met him at the show.
May he rest in peace.

What a tragedy, hope you're doing ok.

You did everything you could for him. I applaud you for not waiting until he was really suffering... sometimes it's hard not too hold on for too long. My thoughts are with you during this hard time... it's so hard to lose them so young but you gave him the best home ever.

I'm so sorry about little Mons. He was so young. You did what was right and gave him a lot of love and happiness. Rest in Peace, sweet boy. You are now free from all pain and illness.

Do you have a picture of him? I would love to see one.

I'll have to upload some pics later.

thanks for all the comments. I've had a hard time reasoning with myself that I didn't rush things. He was such a precious little baby. My mom will be alone again at night (he became her sleeping buddy).

What a gorgeous little tiger stripes! I am so sad that he had to leave you so soon; bless you for doing the difficult, but right thing, that he didn't have to suffer the ravages to his body that FIP would cause - you showed him the truest love of all. Godspeed over RB, little Mons- run quickly to HopeHacker and bask in her tender care until the rest of your family reunites with you again, this time never to be parted

I'm so so sorry. We lost our first Smudge to FIP when he was 6 months old. It's really hard sometimes for me to see this happening to other people, so I'm sorry I didn't really help when he was sick.

thanks all again for your comments. It helps to come here and see all the support. We all loved him, but he was my mom's favorite cat. I try to assure her that it was for the best to take Mons in and we didn't want him to suffer like Grandma did a few years back. Grandma's cancer caused her to fill with fluid much like Mons' FIP was doing to him, but we wanted to spare Mons from the same pain that she had in the end.

awww I'm so sorry. RIP little Mons. It is so sad when they are so young.

His life may have been too short, but he was very loved, knew it, and that makes every day count. Of course, knowing that doesn't make losing him so young hurt any less.

I'm so sorry.

Rest in peace, little Mons.

I'm so sorry that you lost Mons. FIP is such an awful illness. Big to you for doing the right thing for him, no matter how difficult. He knew you loved him, though, and that you did your best to make his short life as happy as possible.

You absolutely made the right choice at the right time. Don't ever question it.

I tried everything when Cinder was sick. This was years ago and they were even less knowledgable about FIP than now. He was not quite a year old. I took him to two different clinics and was waiting on tests when he passed away. That morning he was breathing funny also and was very unsteady on his feet. You keep waiting thinking that once they know what it is you can do something.

I checked on him at noon and then came home early from work to find him dead. I'm sure he suffocated and suffered before he died. This is what would have happed to Mons if you hadn't helped him. There really is no happy ending where FIP is concerned, only the kindness to see that they do not suffer. RIP Mons.

I'm so sorry, but you did right by putting Mon's welfare first

RIP MON

thank you

I felt so bad about when they put the IV in Mons. He was trying to shake it off his leg. It almost made us forget about his difficult breathing back home.

I picked up his ashes today after work. It was the weirdest feeling ever knowing that Mons was inside that box.

Coincidentally, my uncle called us tonight saying that someone dumped two families of kittens and their mothers around closing time in front of their doors. We came as soon as we could once he called us, and we ended up taking one of the babies home. (see 'dumped kittens' thread in kitten section for more infor)

I told mom it was the best way to honor Mons, especially the way the kitties were just dumped like that.
