I don't know ANYTHING about showing Bengals, but I do know she is beautiful and you are going to get WOW's for her everytime someone walks in the house!

Congrats on the gorgeous new addition!

I know how much you've been wanting a bengal, and the joy of just having her will be worth the long wait you've had.

Again, congrats!!!
Thanks! I can't wait to see her! She has the softest meow that it is precious.

Thanks everyone! It will be a new experience, but I think one that will be worthwhile and will give me something new to focus on in life that will be positive.

I do agree with Nial about trying to get them out as kittens. Jack's breeder was kind enough to get him in two kitten shows before he was sent to us for the experience - otherwise he would be close to 7 months before his first show and may not handle it as well.

I have shown a few adult cats who never got in the ring as kittens - out of 3 cats (two HHP, one pedigree) 2 of them handled it fine, the other freaked out. Mitten was pretty laid back anyway and was fine. I had an adult Cornish Rex that handled it well, but my other HHP hated it. So its a 50/50 chance when adult.

I can't wait until she comes. If you have never shown a cat before, is there some website online that is a good resource to look at? I won't have one of those pop-up cages, etc.

Duchess,

You don't need to bring your own cage, the clubs still provide them unless you indicate you will have your own. I imagine in about 10-15 yrs from now you probably will only see wire cages in the judging rings and everyone will have their own cage.

One of the clubs a year or so ago was offering exhibitors to buy a portable cage to keep and use in the future - they didn't have any wire cages in the benching area!

But here's a CFA website to give you a general idea in showing.

Trust me....I'll be taking tons of pictures while she is still that little!
It will be fun to see what she turns into.

Thanks for the info! I have no clue about what rings I would have to go into, etc.

Of course if its a Bengal, CFA does not accept them for showing - they cannot be in the show hall period. Only can show in ACFA or TICA with Bengals. However, the basics are there.

When you put the cat in the show, you will be given a catalog with the ring schedules and your cat's number for that day. They will tell you where you will be benched.

I always circle the rings I need (kitten, alter, etc) under each judge. Those are the rings you will be going to (not necessarily Ring 1 will go first)

Keep the number of your kitten in mind as this is what you look for when they put the groups up in the rings. They will call the numbers they need. Since they go alphabetically, Bengals will be in the first group under that judge. If its an Allbreed ring (long and short hair against each other) the longhairs go first, but still keep an eye on which rings will be next in line. You may be called to another ring first and then go back to the other ring.

Also, judging takes precedence over a final. If your kitten is called for a final and another ring needs him for judging, you go to the judging ring FIRST and tell the clerk in the final ring that you will get your kitten back as soon as he's done in # ring.

Most times judge try to accomadate the other judge and will postpone the finals for a few mins till the other judge is finished.

In ACFA and TICA you can show one day or both days. If you are brand new to things, you probably would handle one day only so you get the idea of what you are doing.

Any other questions, just pm me.

I would suggest you forego the CFA website and just get your info from TICA or ACFA. Those are the organizations you will show under so why bother with CFA?

Here is the TICA website: http://tica.org/

I would say you should plan for a entire weekend show. The first day to get the hang of things and the second day to really start to feel confortable and be confident that you know how things work for your next show.

Thanks Nial. I knew that CFA had a lot of show info, and didn't know if TICA had something similar. You are right - it only helps in the general sense of what is going on.

CFA, ACFA, and TICA are pretty similar in basic show info. But I disagree on the entire weekend. If you've never shown and the cat has never shown, one day may be all you want to handle.

Maybe it would be good if she went to a show without the cat and stayed for 1/2 day to see what you have to do and what is involved.

The reason I think going the whole weekend is a good thing to do is....

Bengal kittens are smart and intuitive and being kittens they are all about having fun.

The first day will be a bit scary and daunting for them, but by the end of the day, they will begin to realize it's not so bad and some fun can be had at the show. Then.... they get to go home or to the hotel, a comfort zone.

The second day they go back to the showhall for more of the same of the first day. Now they already know the routine and are more relaxed and the big pay off at the end, is they get to go back home to their comfort zone.

I think this imprints on them that the show is an adventure, but they get to go back home after the adventure. Back to their familiar stomping grounds.

I don't think a one day show provides the imprinting.

Just my opinion, but I have found this to be pretty accurate with the bengal breed.

Of course the disclaimer is, that some bengals (including all the other breeds) will not like the showhall no matter what. The only way to find out is to show them.

CFA doesn't accept any of the breeds with wild cat origins.
