i have a small place without any doors and 4 other cats, and a dog things have gone well so far, and i set up a whelping box beside my bed and none of the other cats have even investigated it. Normaly my 2 older female cats ignore Savannah and Stitch (the 2 youngest) and my nutered male isnt close to anyone but tonite the older females keep comming up and sniffing Savannah, and acting wierd. They also are keeping a close eye on her. do you think they can tell she is going into labor?? they have never been mean to her just indiferent Savannah is also extreemly clingy the last 2 days. i just am wondering if the other cats can anticipate labor...

You know, I like to think of cats sometimes as they act in the wild. I would say your observations are right on with the others knowing something is up and about to occur with your momma-to-be.

I would just keep a watchful eye on her and the other cats to ensure she does have a place she feels safe to have her babies. Can you put her in a closet to have them?

Was gonna suggest a closet too to put the kittening box in. I suspect after kittens are born, she would be likely to be moving them a lot because its too open.

In that case she should be ok. But I would try to discourage the other cats in the room to bother her.

Do you have or can borrow a very large dog crate/kennel? You can throw a blanket or sheet over it and it would be more secure for everyone.
