She also does this to my husband, and even our dog (she LOVES our dog). In any case, here is what she does: One of us will be walking down the hall, she comes rushing up from behind, and puts herself right in front of our feet, horizontally as to create a road block. And how dare we step forward, or she lets out a most frustrated little meow! So the poor thing yells at us all the way down the hall, while we deal with our own frustration of trying to GET down the hall! Occasionally, if I have time, I'll reach down to pet her and ask her sweetly where she wants me to go. I walk along side her while she shows me. Sometimes it is to the food dish (3-4 hours before mealtime), sometimes it is to the toy we played with last, but often it is to nowhere at all, and then the pattern starts over again when I go about my business. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I worry that there is something bothering her mentally or even physically that needs attention. She has been like this for a long time, but I know from personal experience that doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

Hey
and welcome to TCS!
First let me tell you that you are not alone! Many kitties do this in their own feline way. Erics kitty, Bear, is an ankle grabber, herding, and kitty cop barricade! Maia herds with her charm and adorable mews, if I go to the bathroom she is waiting outside the door to suck me into the kitchen with her irresistible cuteness! I'm sure there are many more kitty herding roommates here!
The one thing they all have in common is the cure, and it's always about looking for some love, getting some attention, at the very least acknowledgment. If you don't have time to stop and pet or play, talking to your kitty goes a long way.

You sure you don't have my Muddy's sister?

Seriously, Muddy does this to me and there sometimes is a point to it (food), but usually he just wants me to pick him up and carry him around with me. Muddy is not a lap cat - he's a shoulder rider and he screams at me when he wants me to pick him up. When I fail to do this he wraps himself around my ankle and bites me. You are lucky.

My cats a 'shoulder rider' although he rather flings himself from the floor and scrabbles up your back when you least expect it and then wraps himself around your neck!
The mornings are the 'difficult' times with Al, he wanders between your feet, running and then slowing down and I worry I'll stand on him!! Bless his heart. He does it all the time, normally I think he just wants some love and a 'chat'!

I think we all have some pretty funny cats! Thank you everybody. It is good to know I am not alone in this, and of course my hubby will be happy to know he is right
...when he says she just wants attention. Wow, if that's the case, it is a good thing I am working from home now!
