Hi all,
Our 6 year old, Cody, has FLUTD and is on a prescription diet to control his Ph, but he's started eating our kitten, Kenai's, food. At first he didn't seem to be interested in it, but then we started noticing that it was disappearing fast, and then we saw him eating it. He is still eating his prescription food, too. We really don't have anywhere that we can think of to feed Kenai that Cody can't get to. Any ideas on what we can do?

Thanks!
Holly

This is a vet question.. but a general rule is RX should be fed to only the cat prescribed and that is the only food that cat should be eating

I guess I didn't phrase my question very well. I know that he will start producing crystals if he doesn't eat his prescription food...It happened before when our old vet said it was ok to change his food, then we ended up in the ER. That is what I would like to prevent! Does any one have any ideas how to feed keep them from eating each other's food without sequestering one of them by themselves all day?

Thanks!

Have you considered putting them both on a wet diet? If you did that you could feed the kitten wet kitten food and the other cat the wet version of his prescription food. The wet food would be good for both of their bladders and they would both be eating their own food. When my other furbaby was alive I had to do that for a while so he could have his prescription food and my food allergy cat could have his special food.

Good idea, but Cody refuses to eat wet food. I think he thinks it stinks! LOL

I understand how that goes too... when my other cat was alive and on the prescription diet he would only lick the gravy off but after feeding it for a week and a half he started eating it more.

Another alternative might be to not free feed them anymore, feed them in the AM and PM and feed them in seperate rooms, lock one in a bathroom and feed the other somewhere else in the house. It might take a day or two to get onto the new routine but that might help as well. Otherwise I would consult your vet about the problem you're having.

We do feed them in separate rooms, but that's a good idea about locking one of them in. We'll have to try that.

Thanks for your help!
