Due to an excessive eater in our cat family weâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve had to resort to a feeding schedule. Our original plan was to feed them at 7:00am, 1:00pm and 7:00pm. My concern is the last feeding. If they take an hour or so to clean their bowls this leaves them without food for 10-12hrs. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not sure this length of time is acceptable. And supplying food through the overnight hours defeats the purpose of a schedule because our over eater will have access to this food.

Advice, Suggestions, Guidance is certainly welcome.

Our shelter cats are fed at 9am and 5pm

Or you could try measuring their food and just giving them that and leaving it out longer. Mine are freefed their 1/2 cup a day and even if the bowl is empty they dont get more until feeding time

Mine are fed at roughly 4am, 2pm and 8pm during the week. Many people just do twice a day.

How old are your cats? If they're kittens, they need to eat more often. If they're adults, they should be fine. Why are you putting the last feeding at 7:00 PM? Could you move it back to 8:30 or 9:00? I put out a measured amount of dry food just before I go to bed. Of course, I can't tell how much each cat it eating, but it seems to be working well so far.

If they are all adult cats, they would be fine with 2 daily meals.

Ours eat in the morning between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., then in the evening between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
