I prefer fur; lovely soft, silky fur. The Sphynx, to me, look unfinished. I also like my cats with whiskers. Besides being a sensory organ, cats communicate so much by whisker position.

I always picture a Sphynx in the arms of some humanoid alien race of the sort Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock might run into. Humm, wonder if they (Sphynx) would hunt tribbles?

Ferris - sent you a pm on the Fargo show

Also when you have cornish rexes - you get spoiled with the wash & wear cats and no grooming. I had a Turkish Angora about 10 yrs ago - after a year, couldn't stand grooming him for shows, and he decided he didn't like shows, so I sold him to a friend that liked longhairs. That was my first and LAST longhair - I will never own them again.

Its interesting you should say that and while I agree about the whisker thing, I do not see that as an issue with my lovely nakeds. They manage well in both light and dark.

Without the fur you can see the musles move, how they slide across the body as the cats move. It really is quite beautiful. Mind you this observation is coming from someone that dissected a cat in highschool (yeah, how strange is that?) I can appreciate the form in fur and in the nude.

I am a fan of the silky fur and the soft, warm "suede" feel

That made me laugh. I shall get my Tribble that was a gift from a Trekkie friend of mine and see if the cats recognize this "foe" LOL

I definitely need fur in my life, lots of it!

My first cat was a blue Persian (actually he was my stepfather's but I always felt like he was mine), and when I finally moved to my current apartment few years ago I got a British Longhair. He only needs to be groomed once a week and doesn't shed much. I also have two British Shorthairs, and they sure have very thick and soft fur.
They will soon be joined by a Scottish Fold.

I have decided to concentrate in British Longhairs (if I can find them..!) and Scottish Folds in future.

By the way, if anyone knows good British Longhair breeders who have silverpoints in their breeding program, please drop me a pm.

I admit I've never seen a Sphynx, only pictures. I would love to hold one and spend some time playing with it.

Two of my favorite cat breeds, modern show Siamese and Oriental Shorthairs look 'alien' to some people.

Anita, Let us know how the tribble experiment turns out.

My mom has outright said she thinks my cats are ugly, that she prefers fur on cats. My dad was here for a week while I was in Mexico and he fell in love with them. For my mom, a catlover, I am disappointed that she would say my "children" are ugly. However, we're all entitled to our opinions and I hope she comes to my new house this summer and see them in person. I'm sure they will convince her that she's wrong about them. I know she is wrong, but she needs to see for herself.

My sister is here and she saw Cleo for the first time and she likes her.
Cleo purred for her.
There might be a another Naked Cat later on.
She is thinking of getting a sphynx for her next cat.
We picked up her Devon Rex today and got back 1 hour ago.
We are taking her to my vet at 4:40.

Sphynx are cool, I like the way they look. They are exotic. Obviously I like exotic cats, look at the breed I chose to work with.

I would enjoy owning a naked cat, but having taken on a Maine Coon and dealing with all the hair and painstaking grooming, I don't think another high maintenance cat is in the cards for us, for quite some time.

Bengals require absolutely no brushing, combing, bathing, wiping down or any coat care. They basically do not shed. A few hairs here and there, but it's almost imperceptible.

I think I have become spoiled with maintenance free cats.

I actually like the grooming needs of the sphynx...it makes me feel motherly to them. I have 2 kids who almost don't need much from me anymore besides clean clothes and groceries LOL but my girls need me to do their ears and toes and baths. I like to feel needed
And really, none of it seems like work because with all things we love, work is needed but the reward far outweighs it. Can you tell I'm a cat freak?!?! LOL

PS: Nial, your bengal cats are just gorgeous, and I think you picked an awesome breed to play a part in your life
Maybe when you retire from breeding, you can get a sphynx. You would love it, I can guarantee it.

My sister wants a sphynx but she said its to much work.
I do not think my dad likes Cleo she hissed at him for some reason.
She likes everyone else.
If you want to talk about Star Trek I named my friends foundation cat Jean Luc Picard.
I named some of the kittens also.
They were 7 of 9 Commander Riker and I forget what the rest were.
They were Persians.

LOL, naked cat invasions!
Love the naked cats.
And the spotted (and marbled) kitties too which also have a strong following in this section!

They need to tell you about their day, they need to follow you room to room, they need to assist with whatever you're doing, they need to sit on your lap - purring and kneading

They do come in spotted but I have never see one
Just had to chase a crazy sphynx all over the house.
She likes to run then stop and meow.
Then she will jump on me.

Wow, those are cool! My Molly has stripes on one of her hind legs on the inside, I would love to see her have a kitten that was all tabby

Little Scotty, classic red tabby, is cute! I wonder how much of the pattern will still be visible when he matures.

The second cat from the bottom has the most amazing gold eyes! What 'coat' color would that be called?

I like the more Oriental look of the Peterbalds.

Speaking of Peterbalds, whatever happened to Gary with Magnoliachat?
