Hi all,
I'm just wondering how long I should keep my little kitten in the dog crate after being spayed. She has internal stitches and it is looking great except for some swelling under the stitches. It has been 48 hrs since surgery. She has been eating and drinking fine, but I haven't seen any poop yet. I just think that if she is up and moving around that she will poop and maybe get the swelling down just a little. Any advice would be great. SHe will be going to the barn to live and she hates my dogs and I just can't get them to put up with each other, not even to avoid each other.

From what you described, medically, it sounds like it's time to release her.

I understand that the anesthesia can cause them to be stopped up a little, but by now she should be going - so being released may help her a lot.

I recently had two ferals spayed, the older one (about 10 months) - the mommy - was spayed on Monday, 2/16, I released her on 2/18.

The clinic said I could release sooner than that, but I was more protective - especially thinking she may have been pregnant when she was spayed - the clinic later told me she wasn't.

Her female kitten, was spayed on 2/17/09, and I released her with her brother on the 19th of Feb.

It seems that my ferals have a little more protection than your kitty, so, the only thing I can say, is my opinion about the surgery recovery - let her out of the crate.
