Just exactly what do you do at the rescue center?

Mainly I take the cats and kittens available for adoption out of their cages and play with them if they want to play, brush and pet them, and give them a break from cage life. I observe them (I've caught a number getting ill, had injuries, or were pregnant), and if anyone is interested in adopting while I'm there, I tell them whatever I know about the cat.

Is that rescue center a no kill and if it is, would you still work there if it was not?

It is not no-kill, although most of the animals I deal with will eventually be adopted (no time limit). Mostly they put to sleep seriously ill or injured animals, and those they have no hope of socializing.

Have you ever been inclined to bring cats into your own home from that center?

All three of our cats came from there, although Punkin and Sterling were adopted before I started volunteering. Ella was a "failed foster."

What would you do if your doorbell rang and by the time you got there, there was no visible human but you found a basket with a mother cat and four or five young suckling kittens?

I would bring them in, put them in the bathroom, call the vet, and otherwise prepare to take care of them at least until the shelter was ready to take them in. (We are at our legal max on adult animals in our home.)

Were you aware that there are more cats in the U.S. then there are dogs?

Yes, I am. And at least part of the reason is that they go feral pretty easily, and too many people think of them as "disposable pets."

11. What would your dream vacation be? (a cruise to some exotic island, a trainride across the country, etc.)

A cruise around the world (I believe the cost is about $30,000 per person, now).

12. Do you believe in ghosts?

No.

13. Would you accept $1 000 000 to leave the country and never step foot back in it again?

Yes. But only since that's hypothetical. I lived for a year in France, and I was VERY glad to be back!

14. Do you prefer being around men or women? (as in are most of your friends male or female, which do you get along with better)

No big preference, but I have always gotten along well with women, from the time I was in elementary school. I had many friends who were girls, but very few girl friends. I knew things about the girls that their boyfriends didn't know.

15. Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be?

My fireproof box and a couple of picture albums.

16. Given the choice of anyone in the world (alive or dead), whom would you chose to meet?

Jimmy Buffett. Winston Churchill.

17. What is your first name? (that's me being nosey LOL)

Michael. I go by Mike.

18. Do you prefer lots of questions, or not so many?

Lots. Sometimes even very similar questions from different people can bring out something that might have been missed.

19. Is there any subject that you do not talk about? (for me, I don't talk politics)?

I follow the Navy wardroom rule. Gentlemen do not discuss religion, politics, or sex. You never know whose god, hero, or sister you might be insulting.

21. What would you like to be doing 5yrs from now? What do you think you will be doing 5yrs from now?

The way things are going, I'll be lucky to be doing what I'm doing now.

22. Would you be willing to eat a bowl full of crickets for $40K ? How about 5K?

I guess it would depend on how they're prepared. Battered and deep fried? Maybe for $40K. Not for $5k. By the way, do you know the Bible considers them "clean meat?"

23. You are given $1 000 000 to donate anonymously to charity or to a stranger. How would you dispose of it?

Probably give it to Best Friends.

24. In conversations, do you tend to listen or talk more?

About 50/50, I hope!

25. If you decided to do something and your friends strongly advised you not to, could you do it anyway?

Yes, but I would re-examine my decision very carefully.

Canada

26. If you could visit 3 places in Canada, where would you visit?

Calgary during Stampede. Victoria (been there once before). PEI, again.

27. Do you ever use the word "eh"... Welcome to Canada eh.

Only in telling a joke.

28. What animals do you associate with Canada? (ex.I think of coyotes in the US...)

Moose. Elk. Beavers. Wolves.

29. Have you ever been to Canada? Where?

I have at least been IN about half the provinces. As far east as PEI. As far north as Edmonton. As far west as Victoria.

30. Have you ever heard of any famous Canadians?

Many. And I know the Canadian habit of saying, "He's Canadian!" as soon as any celebrity from there is mentioned.

How fast will that hot rod of yours go? (Quarter mile times or 0-60).

Do you want to race me in my Porsche past the nearby police station?

How many hours a week do you volunteer at the animal shelter?

What things should I be aware of before volunteering my time at the new nearby animal adoption center (which is located next to the police station).

How long do you think this recession will last and has it affected you at all?

Sorry, folks. I headed out to Lake Charles, LA, yesterday afternoon and didn't have time to answer any questions. I'll be thorough, now!

1.- Wich one is the most crazy thing that have you ever do it???? ( I mean for example, Jump in parachute, Take a Snake live, Jump in Bungee etc)

Can't think of anything. I've lead a pretty tame life, since I got to be an adult. Maybe that's what being an adult IS!

2.- Do you have indor plants at home?

No, not indoors. I have a brown thumb. Dottie is proud of her rose bushes, outside.

3.- If you can travel in time and to meet to some historycal person WHO would be and Tell us why?...

Back around 1900 to meet Mark Twain. He's my favorite author.

4.- If you have the money power to move to some part of the world ( of course with your kittys) wich place would be and why.....

Hawaii.

5.- What is the thing that really anoy you on the persons.......( for example: the hypocresy, the envy etc)

Irresponsibility. Do what you want to, but take responsibility for the results.

6.- Are you Religious?

Not particularly. I was raised in a pretty strict fundamentalist-type church, but I don't attend any more.

7.- Favourite Salad?

Caesar.

8.- favourite pop soda?

Birch beer (not available much in Texas).

9.- Choose one would you prefer to watch Sunrise or Sunset and tell us why......

Sunrise. I'm a morning person.

10.- Do you have a car? wich type is it?....

Several. I drive a 2002 Ford F150 ("knock your socks off red") to work. Dottie has a 2006 Cobalt (yellow). We have the hot rod. In addition, I have a 1963 Chevy Impala and a 1972 MGB, both of them mostly apart and probably down for the count.

1. Since you live in Texas...Have you ever riden a horse?

Yes, but not in Texas! In Colorado, when I was growing up there. I did NOT ride one on the ranch where I worked 2 years.

2. Have you ever had Tri-tip? I heard that in Texas they prefer the brisket, not tri-tip?

From what I read, that is mostly a CA specialty. Yes, BBQ brisket is the specialty here. Close behind is the fajita, or skirt steak, usually sliced and grilled and used in Mexican food.

How fast will that hot rod of yours go? (Quarter mile times or 0-60).

Zero to 60 is about 6 seconds. Probably not all that fast in a quarter. Not legal for the speed it could do, so I've never tried it. However, it has all the aerodynamics of a brick, and that big flat windshield will collapse at a high enough speed.

Do you want to race me in my Porsche past the nearby police station?

Sure. Let's be sure to tell them about it beforehand, too.

How many hours a week do you volunteer at the animal shelter?

Officially, two hours. Unofficially, a few more than that. I go by to check up on my babies on a regular basis.

What things should I be aware of before volunteering my time at the new nearby animal adoption center (which is located next to the police station).

Plan on wearing clothes you can take off immediately when you get home, so as not to expose your cats to anything. Keep in mind that even "no-kill" shelters have to put animals to sleep. Be prepared to have your heart broken. Get a tetanus shot, if you're not up to date. Maybe a pair of welding gloves? Actually, you probably won't handle the problem cats, although I've had a couple surprise me.

How long do you think this recession will last and has it affected you at all?

I think we may be coming out of it, already. But it will be shaky for a while. Gas prices are probably a good indicator; if they start climbing, there are signs of a recovery.

No? Then why ask it? Nah, I understood what you meant. I saw that there were questions, but I had to leave.

I'm about to go to bed, and I'm going to Corpus Christi tomorrow morning. Won't be back until Saturday noon.

Sorry, this is a question for everyone.

Maybe we could post a new thread of "Who would want to be a Spotlight Member"? I looked at the last thread like that about 11 or 20 pages ago and since then most of those people have already done it.
