Don't want to repeat my story but long story short...my cats are being nursed back to health at the shelter from where I adopted them last week. I really want to make sure their return to my apartment goes since the poor kitties have been through so much lately.

One suggestion was to use Feliway to make the return easier on them. If I use Feliway, will I always have to use it? Will the kitties freak out or get depressed once I stop it? Is it something that can be used sparingly to help maintain if there isn't an obvious problem?

Second thing I have seen on the boards is the usage of lysine in paste form to help kitties with the herpes condition that causes URI's and eye infections. Again, once used, do I always have to feed it to the cats for maintenance? Can I use it only to treat symptoms?

Thanks! I really want their second welcome home to go better than their first!

I use lysine but not all the time.
When Meeko gets a bad flare up I use it.
Its help a lot.
Since Oct I have had to use it almost every day.
It depends how bad it is and on the cat.

You can stop using the feliway after they've been acclimated to your home. I'd say 2-3 months should be sufficient, but it is circumstantial. Feliway takes a few weeks to "kick in" so if you're going to get them plug them in ASAP.

L-lysine is typically used as a preventative/immune booster so it's something that you would give long term. Talk to your vet about the specifics.
