This morning I let both girls out of their respective closets for a little "mommy time" and wet food down stairs. I started getting dressed for the day while they were eating.. After I finished I went by my closet and saw that Oreo was back in with her babies. I started to inspect the babies when my heart stopped becuase one her babies was all of the sudden very small. I thought, "did it loose that much weight during the night"??? Then I realized Oreo had stolen one of her sisters babies and was nursing it right along with her babies. I gently, took the baby back to the rightful momma who was nursing her babies minus one. Crazy Oreo!!!!

lol, that's weird. I wonder why?

Maggie and Mrs. M had babies before I got them spayed at about the same time. Maggie kept bringing one to me, I think that was all that survived. I got her to take it back. Mrs. M just had two and then I went out one morning and Mrs. M took Maggie's baby, I know it was Maggie's because it was the same color and it was a different size then her own. I think she knew Maggie wasn't cut out to be a mother, so she took it upon herself to help her out. lol.

You will need to watch her because she will keep doing that.
Is it dangerous? I would have thought it would just be like pride animals or whatever. All the babies get fed, but it doesn't really matter which momma does it?

My mom says that when she was a kid (back in the '50s when nobody spayed their cats
), her cats would put all their babies in a big pile and feed them all together. So I guess that's just something cats like to do
. I don't think it's harmful, as long as all the kitties are being fed.

I am not too concerned over the mommas sharing duties but I am not trying to promote it either. Each have plenty of milk and are doing fine with their respective babies. I would worry more about one of the other cats that has not had babies or my male stud getting to them. I am taking precautions against that. No more leaving doors open, that is for sure.
