I'm trying to win Neil over on the stray.

Anyhow I will be calling the local shelters and a couple other places to see if there is a missing cat with his description. But I believe he has other been out for a few weeks or had an owner who wasn't very good with any care as I find it hard to believe someone would ignore all those burrs that were in his tail. Plus I think the ears look a bit dirty. (and he smells like male cat spray)

Anyhow I called my vet as if I would be able to keep him I would take him in for an exam/FeLV test before exposing to any of my cats.

I am concerned on getting into a carrier to the vet as I have no experience with moving strays into carrier for a trip to the vet.
I think I'm still a bit spooked from being bit 5 yrs ago with Tommie. I do have my welding gloves and I was thinking of maybe putting a dab of moist food into a carrier that I have the top taken off and would quickly put it back on?

Even though he is very friendly this afternoon when I came home since he is in the garage I left the truck outside, opened the house and went into the garage where he was hiding in the corner (which he was doing before I left for work). I carried him down to the basement to temporarily put in bathroom there but he scooted out (but I got him in). Once the truck was in and garage door shut I brought him back up to the garage and he was ok.

This leads me to this if I move a bit to fast he might be a bit skittish.

I'm sure there are members who have had to transport strays/ferals so any tips would be great.

Here's what I do. I put the carrier with the opening facing up. I pick up the cat and with one hand under the chest, I put the back legs in the other hand and put her in butt first. Does that makes sense? OR with the feral ones, I pick them up by the scruff of the neck and put them in feet first.

That's kind of how mine go into the carrier!! Sometimes I think I overthink this stuff.

I just want to be careful around the tail area as he has some sort of tail injury more towards the base closer to his body. It just flops over instead of standing up. But it doesn't seem to bother him when he is laying on my lap!
