wow. I'm so sorry.

All I can say is that I've seen this type of thing happen before. My friend had a dog that was fine one day, and the next day for no apparent reason was bleeding internally and died of exsanguination when they got him to the animal hospital. It just happened so fast.

I hope you get some answers and again - I'm terribly sorry to hear about this.

i also don't think either of those would've had results this quickly, even if he'd ingested enough to cause harm.

Jasper was such a handsome boy - & we all worry about our survivors when we lost one unexpectedly... i know i did for several months after losing Mouse - every little thing, i was ultra-concerned. the necropsy will most likely ease your worries about Kitty. i tend to think that it was some sort of congenital problem like HCM or possibly a stroke or something similar, since he wasn't showing any signs of ill health.

sending & for you, your DH & Kitty, plus a
for Jasper.
oh, be sure to explain to Kitty what's happened - it'll help more than you think.

After speaking with our vet, we have decided not to get the necropsy. They would have to send him away and we would not get him back. They would put him in a mass cremation. I want him back. My husband is away and I think we need to say goodbye together and sprinkle Jasper's ashes somewheres quiet. I think I will find greater comfort in this than knowing for sure what happened to him.

Kitty seems fine. She is drinking, eating and peeing. I'm telling myself that it was a heart condition.

He went to sleep in his favorite spot in the sun. i take comfort in that. He was home and it was peaceful. Maybe it is better that we do not know. I would feel tremendous guilt if it was because of something I did.

Kitty's litterbox is being permanently moved. It used to be in the basement which is the likely location of anything he may have gotten into. She will never go in the basement again or on our doorstep for even a minute.

He could have thrown a clot, had a bad heart, some genetic disorder, it is really hard to say. Honestly, necropsies do not always tell you what is going on with them (plus they are a bit spendy) Although it is not much comfort, he did go quick and it was more than likely painless. The elimination of the kidneys and bowel is common at death. I am sorry you lost your kitty, but chances are good it is nothing contagious and your other cat will be fine. Since I rescue high-risk cats, I have encountered this type of situation many times. Most of the time there are never answers after a necropsy, just more questions. Be kind to yourself and spend some snuggle time with your other resident cat who will soon be mourning the loss of a friend.

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a horrible shock that must have been for you. From what you describe it sounds like it may have been an internal problem like a birth defect. I doubt that you did anything that contributed to Jasper's death. You are right, it's good he was at home and in his bed. At home in my bed in a warm patch of sunshine is how I'd chose to go.

I hope you, Kitty and your husband will find just the place for Jasper's ashes and that it will put your heart at ease to spend time celebrating his life.

Man that seriously bites that the doctor can't do one in house... just to ease your mind that it was nothing you did and ease your mind that maybe he had something seriously wrong. At least by not doing it you'll have him back. I am so sorry for your loss. I know for me I was always expecting both of my cats to grow old and not have to worry about death until they were crusty and ancient and it was what I felt was a good time. I just lost my 3 year old furbaby this past Friday so I empathize with you, I know how much it hurts and I'm very sorry for your loss.
