how neat! Since they say it has a low chance of survival, why can't they take it to a zoo or something?

I couldn't look once I saw the comments about low survival chances, but it does sound awfully sweet.

Probably the fact that is was surrounded by a whole herd of adult elephants......

But I agree, if the baby isn't going to survive, it's too bad they can't get it and protect it somewhere.

Baby elephants taken away from their mamas and herds also have a low rate of survival. They must have a human with them 24/7 for a couple of years and even then they are never really "right."

Captivity isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

Oddly enough, elephants are one of the few animals that has a shorter lifespan in captivity than in the wild.

Did everyone see the albino dolphin photos that were all over a couple of weeks ago?
