I will be undergoing a cosmetic procedure on Monday to reduce the size my ears. The size of my ears has bothered me since childhood and I used to get teased a lot. I decided to undergo an otoplasty/ear size reduction. My family thinks I'm crazy for doing this but I feel it will help boost my confidence. I will have to wear bandages on my head for a week and I will have to wear a headband for 6 weeks afterwards in order for my ears to take shape and heal. Has anyone ever undergone any kind of cosmetic procedure and did it help your self esteem afterwards?

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I actually went through the same procedure you're going to do when i was a kid. Somehow my parents got the insurance to cover it... I was tormented as a kid because of my ears. I got called Dumbo (the Disney elephant)

Granted, in the early '80s, I ended up wearing a full head cast, not a band... I wish it had been a band... I spent when felt like all summer indoors because of that darn cast. And you could've lubed a car with the amount of oil in my greasy, unwashed hair after 6 weeks of that cast being on... blech.

It helped immensely, BTW. I wasn't teased for my ears anymore. I wasn't self-conscious about my school pictures anymore. However, they did turn their attention to my homemade floodwater corduroy pants... yeesh...

I have not (although there is a couple that I want to when I am better off financially) but several of my friends have. Breast reduction, breast enhancement, and tummy tuck.

The one with the breast enhancement was a younger friend of mine (she's in her early 20's) who is rail thin. Her self esteem was horrible, her parents actually paid for the procedure but the change in her was amazing. It truly helped. She was 17 when she had it done.

It's amazing how much certain physical aspects of ourselves can impact our daily lives. I think you are doing the right thing for you. I hope to have that ability in the semi-near future.

Good luck with your surgery.

That must have been tough to wear a head cast. I can't imagine not washing my hair for 6 weeks. It will be hard enough not washing it for a week. I hope the surgery will help my overall appearance. I have ordered the headbands I will need to wear after the bandages come off and I will look weird in public wearing the headbands. But I don't mind paying a price for a better appearance.

Our daughter had it done when she was 10. She had to wear a wrap-around gauze bandage over some padding over her ears. It wasn't a big deal. Hers was paid for by our Canadian health system. Apparently once she turned 18 it would not be paid for anymore as they consider it cosmetic surgery at that age.

Before she had it done I used to keep her indoors on windy days so I wouldn't lose her.

Some of you may think that's cruel of me to say that but we (hubby, daughter and I) have a "different" sense of humour and really enjoy each other's humour.

muwhahahahaha
Sounds like the sense of humour in my house. We "insult" each other on a regular basis.

Got in crap for it by one of DH's reletives once.... at a family xmas, he and I were doing our normal insulting of each other (both of us with huge smiles and laughing) and we "offended" his older aunt who promptly told us that how we were acting was not nice, and if we loved each other we wouldn't act like that
and Yup, it was quite hard for me to keep my mouth shut.

We show our love by the number of "digs" we can get into each other each day. My kids join in too LOL.

I think it sounds like a great idea! good luck!

as far as the ragging on each other, my family is that way too. My mom is my sister and I's favorite target, my dad sometimes gives us good ammunition too
I always say if we didn't love them we would just ignore them

If it has bothered you that long browneyes...I think after you recover you will be most pleased.

I sorta had cosemtic surgery...it was reconstructive plastic surgery on my eyes. I've had four of the six surgeries so far...I still *feel* really ugly so it doesn't matter too much on the improvement of my appearance. Actually, the right turned out ok but the left eye has been "attempted" more than once and I still don't like the results.

I had a breast reduction years ago. I didnt see it as cosmetic really. My self esteem wasn't too affected but it was nice to feel smart for a change lol.

good luck!!

and yes i had cosmetic surgery, after pondering it for about 5 years i decided i was going thru with a boob job. i was very flat chested, and i used to think how much nicer i would look in certain shirts and how it would accent my shape. it was my choice. my mom dad and BF fully supported me and said whatever i decided was up to me. i was scared to death! i was in bed for 3 days straight but it ended up being well worth it, i can wear all kinda diff shirts that wouldnt look good on me before and i can show off some nice cleavage
