I really hope that the reports are wrong and that she is not brain dead. It doesn't help the family with all these conflicting reports.

My thoughts go out to the family and I hope Natasha recovers.

Oh no - thoughts definitely going their way.

It is tragic. Our server, Sympatico.ca reported that she had been taking lessons on the beginner hill and fell. It's unbelievable that a fall like that could have done so much damage. We've had a few bad ski accidents this year with people running into trees but her fall was so different.

Liam was shooting a film in Toronto so he was at least only an hour away and was able to rush to her side.

You know, this year seems to have been really bad for accidents on the ski hills! My boyfriend and I were considering learning next year, but I'm really reconsidering.

I'm hoping that the reports are wrong. Whatever I was watching yesterday said that she was fine right after the accident and then started having troubles later on (not uncommon with head injuries). There have been a range of reports about her current condition.

I'm hoping as well, but we do know that she is in the hospital in either serious or critical condition.
Beyond that, it's just media speculation.

I still pray for them all for either her recovery, or her quick and painless passing.

That's awful!!! my thoughts are with them
post #13 of 26
On breakfast news this morning they said the press are making it sound bad because no one from the family has given an update since she was admitted to hospital.

Their hoping that the family will give an update this evening, so i don't know if that was UK time or US time, but i've got the news coming on soon.

I am surprised she had such a fall on a beginners trail too!! It had to have been huge...Now I understand why my parents worry and call me a million times when I go skiing. It doesn't seem that dangerous to me ...but I guess it really is. I hope it's an exaggeration and she is okay..

It's just been on the news again, and all their saying is that she's still in a critical condition.

Something they did say was being a beginner she never had a helmet on!

No helmets are actually the norm on bunny slopes unfortunately and not required.
However, this may once again force them to relook at this issue and perhaps place a helmet rule into effect.

Some sites are saying they have taken her off life support but I don't know how accurate they are.

How sad
Theres going to be an update in just over an hour on the news, so hopefully it'll be good news

EDIT It's been on the news again, but her family still havent spoke. Their priority obviously is to stay at her bedside hoping for some changes

Here's another link to a very nice obit that truly pays tribute to a life well lived.

Very sad. The whole situation. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

I did read an article today that said that wearing a helmet probably wouldn't have changed the outcome. It said that helmets protect mainly against the minor, but more prevalent, injuries such as lacerations and mild concussions. The percentage of people wearing helmets on the slopes has increased yearly, but the number of fatalities (around 40/year) has remained unchanged.

A US showbiz journalist was on the news this morning saying how the English press were more conservative about it by giving them some privacy compaired to the US press. That makes a change!!

I felt sorry for her mother when she went to hospital to see her, because they were shouting at her wanting to know what the situation was, and this apparantly is why they started putting out rumours because no one was commenting.

An Engligh Doctor here also said that she must have felt unwell to go back to the hotel, because after she jumped up and laughed after her fall, he said normally you would just carry on?.
