the pilot light went out on my water heater. i've re-lighted it, but i'm wondering how long it'll be before i have hot water. it's a 40 gallon tank.
thanks!

Should be less than an hour, but it depends on how healthy the tank is. If it has a lot of build-up in it, it takes longer. Do you know why the pilot went out?

took somewhere around that - i checked after 1.5 hours, & it was hot.
they're doing road work around my house. they left me a note a few days ago, saying things might need relighting. i checked the stove, it was fine. felt the water heater, & it was hot - so i figured i didn't need to worry about it.

Ah, good. I just get concerned when anyone says something "quit working," because usually that's a sign of some other problem.

We have a gas water heater, and it's pretty hard to run out of hot water. However, I installed a small heater (4 gallons) under the kitchen sink, since it's at the other end of the house. I should have done it 11 years ago, when we moved in. Instant hot water!
