...in an envelope we never opened. We had an overage in escrow and they gave us the balance.

That is what he's doing! He is hilarious, it looks like a bomb went off in the office and he is sitting in the middle of the blast, surrounded by papers.

!! What a nice surprise! I remember when I was handling mom's estate, I just got overwhelmed and stopped opening things...a few months later, I found a check for almost $1200 from investments that couldn't be transferred and I was the only beneficiary. I didn't even realize it! Yeah, we did the happy dance that day!

Check the date on the cheque. After a certain length of time cheques are no longer good. If it's only a couple months it should be fine though.

That's wonderful! I had a similar experience a couple of months ago. I went through old envelopes in my desk drawer and found a check for $120 from an old car loan that had apparently overcharged us on the payoff when we traded it in. It was over a year old! And yes, the check was still good, thank goodness!
