Oh my goodness. I just finished watching it and I can honestly say I haven't cried that hard watching a movie since I saw Beaches when I was 12.

It was not at ALL what I expected. Have you seen it?

I haven't seen it as I could tell it would not be something I'd like, but so far I keep hearing the same thing out of a lot of people. That Anne Hathaway did a very good job, but the movie was awful - lots of people have complained about it so far and wanted reimbursed with a free rental for wasting their money.

I'm amazed that anyone would think the movie was awful. It was incredible, but I think you have to be someone who has an appreciation for that type of movie to like it. It's not for everyone. If you're just looking for a fun, entertaining movie, this is not for you. But if you want a thought-provoking movie with a message, then this is a great film.

Hmm, based on the plot summary I found in Wikki, it doesn't sound all that good to me.

Kym (Anne Hathaway) returns home from drug rehab the day before her sister, Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt), is getting married to Sidney (Tunde Adebimpe), a musician. Her arrival causes long-standing family tensions to surface.
Can you elaborate more on that and give me a reason why you found this movie to be worthy of watching?

If the plot summary doesn't at least pique your interest, you won't like this movie. It's a character study and a look at how a family reacts to crisis both in its present and in its past.

If you have an appreciation for movies like Revolutionary Road or Leaving Las Vegas, you might like this movie.

I personally enjoy movies even if they are dark and leave some questions un-answered (Doubt is a perfect example of such a movie). I also enjoy a good character study, where a film is more about the complexities of humanity than a plot.

Rachel Getting Married is not some happy-go-lucky thrill ride with an ending that explains everything with a cherry on top. It is a character study. If you like character studies, watch this movie. If you don't, then don't watch this movie.

I never saw Rev. Road but I loved Leaving Las Vegas and in fact own that movie. Next time I get to Blockbuster I may just rent Rachel Getting Married. Or I may wait till it is On Demand. Thanks for the info.

Hmmm...I may have to rent this. I love movies that get into characters' heads, but I have to be in the mood for it. I think the title may be misleading...ie, marriage = happiness. I'm guessing this doesn't happen in this movie.

I thought it was a very interesting movie as well. It's not a happy-go-lucky movie, it's a powerful movie about a family that is strained at the best of times and made even more stressed out by the wedding of the "good" daughter. The actors all do a fantastic job.

Linda - you can't really know what a movie will be like from just a 3 line synopsis. But if you like more real storylines, you'll probably like it, if you prefer to only lighthearted movies, or comedies then you are unlikely to enjoy it.
